FAQ: 15 Questions Buyers Ask About Coil Packing Lines
These are the questions buyers ask us most often, answered with the data we quote on our own automatic coil packing line installations.
1. What Is a Coil Packing Line?
A set of linked stations that packs coils automatically: typically a turnstile or coil car, a down-ender, conveyors, an eye-through wrapper, strapping, weighing and labeling, and stacking, all under one PLC.

The image shows two people at a steel coil wrapping machine on the plant floor. The wrapping station is one of the linked stations that the line's PLC controls as one flow.
2. What Coil Sizes Can It Handle?
It depends on the line. Our steel coil packing line takes 100–3000 kg coils, OD 900–1400 mm, ID 508 mm and width 15–450 mm. Our PPGI line takes coils of 1–30 t, OD 800–1800 mm, width 500–1800 mm and ID 508–610 mm.
3. How Fast Is It?
Standard lines pack 10–30 coils per hour; for example, our steel coil packing line packs 20–30. High-output configurations reach 50–60 coils per hour. The slowest station sets the rate.
The image shows a bottleneck diagnosis at a coil wrapping machine in a factory. The slowest station sets the line rate, so the output number follows the measured constraint, not the fastest motion.
4. Which Packaging Materials Can Be Used?
Stretch film, VCI paper, paper, woven PP belt and composite film. Film is normal because film rolls are long; paper rolls are short and need frequent reloading on large coils.
5. What Overlap Can the Wrapper Achieve?
20% to 90%, adjustable.
6. Can Edge Protectors Be Applied Automatically?
Outer edge protectors can, with an optional device that works during eye-through wrapping. Inner edge protectors are fitted manually or by a robot.
7. Steel Strap or PET Strap?
Steel strap keeps the coil from unwinding in transport. PET strap secures the package, for example to a pallet, and holds the edge protectors in place. Radial strapping of stainless coils usually uses PET strap.
8. Do Strap Points Need Pads?
Generally no, because the coil is already wrapped. Cardboard pads are mainly used on soft metals such as aluminum.
9. What Is the Narrowest Coil the Line Can Handle?
The down-ender takes coils from 15 mm wide. Coils of around 15 mm are generally strapped manually: they are taped, tilted 90°, and strapped through the eye with PP or PET strap (2, 3, 4 or 6 straps).
10. Can 1000 mm Wide Coils Be Strapped Automatically?
Yes, automatically or manually.
11. What Utilities Are Needed?
380 V/50 Hz (other supplies to order) and clean, dry compressed air at 0.6–0.8 MPa.
12. Which Control System Do You Use?
Siemens PLC as standard (AB or Mitsubishi on request), with inverter soft start/stop. The HMI is chosen per project from Mitsubishi, Siemens, MCGS or Delta. Recipes are changed by selecting the recipe on the touch screen.
13. How Long Is Delivery?
About 90 days after the down payment for a compact line, and up to about 150 days for radial strapping machines.
14. What Warranty Do You Give?
A 2-year warranty, with lifetime technical support. We also guarantee a 98% efficiency rate: with normal maintenance, the machine runs normally at least 98% of the time over a full year.

15. What Do You Need for a Quotation?
Coil weight, OD, ID, width, required output, packaging specification and site layout.
