Tyre Packing Machine and Tyre Wrapping Machine for PCR Tyres: Sizing from the Tyre Code

Executive summary Our vertical tyre wrapper turns the tyre on rollers while a ring passes film through the bead opening and around the tread. For passenger car (PCR) tyres, we size the machine from the tyre code: the FPT-200 takes 510–800 mm OD and 300–700 mm ID. Large SUV sizes can fall between models, so we check your size list first.

How the tyre wrapper works

The operator loads the tyre from the top into a C-shaped ring that opens upward. Rollers turn the tyre while the ring rotates through the bead opening, so film spirals around the tread and sidewalls. The ring returns to its start position and resets automatically after each tyre.

A cylinder bracket supports the roller, so light tyres do not shake during wrapping. In our video, the operator loads the tyre from the top and the ring wraps it in place.

From tyre code to OD and ID

A PCR tyre code such as 205/55R16 gives the section width in mm, the aspect ratio in percent and the rim diameter in inches. The outside diameter is the rim diameter plus two sidewall heights. The inside diameter at the bead is close to the rim diameter.

Example: 205/55R16 gives 16 × 25.4 + 2 × 205 × 0.55 = 632 mm OD.

The first three codes in the table above fit the FPT-200 on OD, ID and width. The width limits also mean these machines wrap one tyre at a time: two 205 mm tyres together are 410 mm wide, over both the 250 mm and 300 mm limits.

Sizes between models

The 265/70R17 SUV tyre is 803 mm OD, just over the FPT-200 limit. Its 432 mm bead ID is also under the FPT-300 minimum of 500 mm, so it fits neither window as listed. Its 265 mm width is also over the FPT-200 limit of 250 mm.

Sizes like this are why we ask for your full size list. We then adjust the machine to your largest and smallest tyres, or confirm a custom window in the proposal.

Inverters control the ring and roller speeds with soft start and stop, which sets the overlap.
