Overcoming Barriers: How We Achieved Remote Commissioning of a Full Steel Coil Packing Line
In the industrial machinery sector, “on-site commissioning” has long been considered a non-negotiable step for complex systems like an Automatic Steel Coil Packing Line. Between global pandemic restrictions and complex geopolitical landscapes, sending our engineers to a customer’s site recently became a physical impossibility.
Despite these hurdles, we are proud to announce a major milestone: The successful, fluent operation of a complete steel coil packaging line achieved entirely through online support.
The Challenge: A World Apart
The project involved a high-level integration of a Steel Coil Packing Line, featuring advanced modules such as the Titan VS12 welding strapping head, Mettler Toledo weighing stations, and automatic stacking machines. Traditionally, this would require a team of Fhope technicians on-site to oversee the installation and fine-tune the Siemens PLC configurations.
Due to the pandemic and diplomatic travel restrictions between our countries, our engineering team could not be physically present. This left us with a choice: delay the project indefinitely or innovate our service model.

Leveraging the digital infrastructure of our equipment, we transitioned to a 100% remote support model. Drawing on our commitment to “Responding and dealing with trouble within 3 hours” (as noted in our technical service standards), we established a multi-layered communication channel:
- Online Guidance: Utilizing high-definition video calls and instant messaging, our engineers guided the customer’s local team through the mechanical assembly of the gantry structures and the wiring of the IP20-rated control cabinets.
- Virtual Commissioning: Because our systems utilize Siemens S7-1200 PLCs and WinCC visualization software, we were able to review program logic and adjust parameters remotely.
- Technical Documentation: We provided comprehensive CAD wiring diagrams, terminal diagrams, and operation manuals (Step 7 and WinCC) to ensure the local team had every piece of “Basic Design” information required.
Fluent Operation: The Result
The result was a triumph of collaboration. The line is now in fluent operation, achieving the gold standard for metal packaging. The finished coils are, as we always promise, “smooth, neat, even, and uptight.”
Every module is performing with high precision:
- Strapping: The strapping head is delivering joints with over 90% efficiency.
- Weighing & Labeling: The printer and Mettler Toledo scales are capturing and printing data with a precision of ±2mm.
- Stacking: The Magnet Lifter is safely handling loads up to 5000kg, stacking them onto pallets with surgical accuracy.
