> **Executive summary**
> A semi-automatic orbital wrapper wraps long products in stretch film as they pass through a rotating ring, with one operator loading by hand. In this clip one profile goes from loading to the outfeed in about 18 s, with about 9 s of wrapping.
> Our S200 semi-automatic horizontal orbital wrapper is specified for products over 300 mm long, 10 to 200 mm across and 10 to 100 kg, configured per project.

What the clip shows, in order
The machine has a white frame around a round ring opening, a yellow roller infeed on the left, an outfeed on the right and a control post at the front left. The post carries a red emergency-stop button, at least four black and grey buttons and a row of red, green and yellow lamps.
1. **0 to about 6 s.** The machine is at rest with no product.
2. **About 12 to 15 s.** An operator walks in from the left and lays a long silver metal profile on the infeed rollers. The machine has not started.
3. **About 18 to 21 s.** The profile has entered the ring and the wrapping starts. The operator has stepped back to the left and does not intervene.
4. **About 24 to 27 s.** The ring completes the wrap around the profile.
5. **About 27 to 30 s.** The profile moves out onto the outfeed and stops.
6. **About 33 to 39 s.** The ring is empty and the machine waits for the next piece.
How a semi-automatic orbital wrapper works
In a horizontal orbital wrapper the film roll is mounted on a ring that turns around the product while the product travels through it on conveyors. The film lays on in a spiral, and the conveyor speed against the ring speed sets the overlap. Semi-automatic means the operator loads and unloads by hand, while the conveyors, the ring and the film carriage run automatically.
That split suits long products made in batches, such as profiles, bars, tubes and mouldings.
| Part of our S200 | Role |
|---|---|
| Entrance conveyor, motor drive | Carries the product into the ring |
| Ring with film carriage | Lays the film around the product |
| Outlet conveyor, motor drive | Carries the wrapped product out |
| Control post | Start, stop and emergency stop |
Wrapping cycle time on the clip
| Step on the clip | Time window | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Manual loading | about 12 to 15 s | about 3 s |
| Infeed into the ring | about 15 to 18 s | about 3 s |
| Wrapping | about 18 to 27 s | about 9 s |
| Out to the outfeed | about 27 to 30 s | about 3 s |
| Loading to outfeed | about 12 to 30 s | about 18 s |
The wrap time scales with product length: at a fixed conveyor speed, a longer piece spends longer in the ring. The S200 runs its conveyors at 4 to 12 m/min, so a 2 m piece passes the ring in 10 to 30 s.
S200 specifications
| S200 semi-automatic horizontal orbital wrapper | Specification |

| Product size across | 10 to 200 mm |
| Product weight | 10 to 100 kg |
| Entrance and outlet conveyor | 2,000 mm each, motor driven |
| Conveying speed | 4 to 12 m/min |
| Ring speed | 20 to 120 r/min |
| Power | about 2.1 kW, AC 380 V, 60 Hz |
| Film | LLDPE stretch film, 120 to 200 mm wide |
Takt check
For an illustrative target of 120 pieces per hour, the takt is 3,600 ÷ 120 = 30 s. The clip cycle from loading to outfeed is about 18 s, leaving about 12 s for unloading the wrapped piece and picking up the next one. For longer pieces, use the conveyor speed to estimate the wrap time and check it against your takt.
Selection checklist for a semi-automatic orbital wrapper
- [ ] Product length, size across and weight: over 300 mm, 10 to 200 mm and 10 to 100 kg on the S200.
- [ ] Single pieces or small bundles.
- [ ] Film width and overlap for the protection you need.
- [ ] Output per hour and the length mix.
- [ ] Space for the 2,000 mm infeed and outfeed conveyors.
- [ ] Options: different packing material, conveyor length, automatic cutter.
Controls and safety
The turning ring and the conveyor nip points are the danger zones. On the clip the operator places the profile while the machine is at rest and steps back before the wrap starts. Keep hands out of the ring opening while the machine runs.
Stop, isolate and lock out the wrapper before anyone threads film, clears a jam or works inside the ring.
The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method and EN 415-10 covers general requirements for packaging machines, which fixes guarding and the emergency-stop arrangement.
Engineering FAQ
Q: How long does one wrap take?
A: On the clip, about 9 s of wrapping and about 18 s from loading to outfeed. Longer pieces take longer, at a conveyor speed of 4 to 12 m/min.
Q: What product sizes fit the S200?
A: Products over 300 mm long, 10 to 200 mm across and 10 to 100 kg, wrapped in 120 to 200 mm LLDPE stretch film.
Q: What does semi-automatic mean here?
A: The operator loads and unloads by hand; the 2,000 mm conveyors, the ring at 20 to 120 r/min and the film carriage run automatically.
Next step
We size a semi-automatic orbital wrapper in three steps:
1. **Submit your layout drawing** with the product length, size across, weight and output target, to **info@fhopepack.com**.
2. **Receive a proposal within 48 hours**, including the ring size, the conveyor lengths and the cycle check against your takt.
3. **Book a site survey** so we confirm the floor space, the loading position and the power supply.
