FHOPE Luggage Stretch Wrapping Machine

Executive summary A luggage stretch wrapper stands a suitcase on a turntable and winds clear stretch film round it, so the case is sealed against scratches, dirt and opening. Ours does this on a stainless turntable beside a tall column, with the film carriage running down the column as the case turns. Film use follows from the case section and height, and the number of turns you program. Both are set per project.

What the video shows

A suitcase stands upright on the round stainless turntable of our red and white wrapper. The table turns steadily, and clear film runs from the carriage on the tall column onto the case. The carriage moves down the column as the table turns, so the film builds up in a spiral from the top of the case to the bottom.

The film stays tight round the case and the layers overlap evenly. The control panel on the column carries two displays, a row of buttons and a stop button.

How the luggage wrapper works

Load The case is stood upright in the middle of the turntable
Start Film is attached to the case and the cycle started
Spiral wrap The table turns while the carriage travels along the column
End turns Extra turns at top and bottom hold the film edges
Cut and unload The film is cut, the tail pressed down, the case lifted off

Standing the case upright keeps its handle and wheels clear, and the turntable keeps the film tension even all the way round.

Estimating turns and film

Illustrative example for a case 450 mm wide, 250 mm deep and 700 mm tall, with 500 mm film overlapping by half:

More overlap gives a tougher cover but uses more film. Set the turns per case size in the program.

The same machine wraps other upright items of similar size, such as boxes and bundles.

Controls and safety

The turntable and film carriage move during the cycle. The stop button at the foot of the control panel stops the machine. Keep hands off the case and the film while it is turning.

The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method and EN 415-10 sets general requirements for packaging machines.
