Plattenwendemaschine, Sperrholzwendemaschine: Technologie und bewährte Verfahren

Executive summary

Plywood, MDF and building-board stacks often have to be turned, for inspection, a pallet swap or edge storage. Flipping a stack of panels with a forklift or by hand marks the faces and can drop the load.

A ring-type panel turnover machine clamps the whole stack inside a steel ring, rolls the ring on drive rollers and sets the stack down in its new orientation. This page covers how it works, ring sizing and what to check before you order.

Our panel turner is a large O-shaped steel ring standing on a base frame with motor-driven support rollers. A plywood stack sits on the lower platen inside the ring, and a hydraulic top platen clamps it. The ring then rolls through 90° to stand the stack on edge, or on to 180° to turn it upside down. An operator runs the cycle from a separate push-button control cabinet beside the machine.

Why turn panel stacks by machine

A stack of plywood is heavy, wide and slippery between sheets. Tipping it with forks scuffs the face veneer and the sheets can slide out of square. Turning by hand is only possible sheet by sheet. A clamped ring turn keeps every sheet pressed together, so the stack arrives in the new position square and undamaged.

Typical jobs are turning stacks to check both faces, changing a broken pallet, laying stacks flat after edge storage, and standing stacks upright for container loading.

How the ring turner works

  1. Belastung: a forklift or roller conveyor places the stack on the lower platen inside the ring.
  2. Klemme: the hydraulic top platen lowers onto the stack and holds it at a set pressure.
  3. Rollen: geared motors drive the support rollers under the ring, and the ring turns with the stack inside.
  4. Stop: the ring stops at 90° (stack on edge) or 180° (stack inverted), set by limit switches.
  5. Freisetzung: the platen opens and the stack is taken out on the other side or from the same side.

Entwurfspunkte

  • Ring and rollers: the load turns about the ring centre, so the motors only overcome the offset of the load’s centre of gravity and roller friction, not lift the whole weight.
  • Hydraulische Klemme: pressure is set for the panel type; too little lets sheets slide, too much crushes soft boards or edges.
  • Platen pads: wide platens spread the force across the top sheet so no single area is marked.
  • Zentrierung: the stack should sit close to the ring centre; an off-centre stack makes the ring want to run on by itself near the end of the turn, so drive brakes hold it.
  • Regler: separate cabinet with push buttons, so the operator stands clear of the ring.

Ring size, rated load, turning time and motor power are matched to your stacks and confirmed at quote.

Sizing the ring for your stack

Check: the stack’s cross-section must turn inside the ring. Diagonal d = √(stack width² + stack height²) + clearance ≤ ring inner opening. The panel length runs along the ring axis and sets the platen length, not the ring opening.

Example only, for a 4 × 8 ft panel lying flat:

Artikel Wert (Beispiel)
Stapelbreite 1,220mm
Höhe des Stapels 1,000mm
Panel length (along ring axis) 2,440mm
Diagonale √(1,220² + 1,000²) 1,577 mm
Angebote Über 100 mm
Ring inner opening needed Über 1,680 mm
Platen support length close to 2,440 mm
Drehwinkel 90 ° oder 180 °
Rated load, turning time, motor power zum angegebenen Preis bestätigt

The ring is open at both ends, so a long panel can pass through it; the platens must still support the stack along its length so the overhang does not sag. The final ring size is confirmed at quote.

Auswahl-Checkliste

  1. Panel length, width and stack height range?
  2. Heaviest stack weight?
  3. Turn to 90°, 180°, or both?
  4. Loaded by forklift or on a conveyor line?
  5. With or without a pallet under the stack?
  6. Surface sensitivity: raw, sanded or coated faces?
  7. Stromversorgung vor Ort?

Sicherheit

We design turning machines to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for machine safety and EN 60204-1 for electrical equipment. The working zone around the ring is guarded or fenced, the clamp holds pressure if power is lost, and the E-stop is on the control cabinet.

Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Technik

Q: Will the sheets slide during the turn? A: Not while the platen clamps the stack; pressure is set for the board type.

Q: Can it turn stacks with a pallet? A: Yes, the pallet is clamped with the stack; after a 180° turn it is on top and can be swapped.

Q: Is it only for plywood? A: No. MDF, particle board, EPS panels and sheet stacks turn the same way if they fit the ring.

Q: How long is one turn? A: The turning time depends on ring size and load and is confirmed at quote.
