Resumen ejecutivo
A horizontal coil wrapping machine packs a steel coil lying eye-horizontal on a roller conveyor. A ring head passes through the eye while the coil is turned on its rollers, so paper or film spirals over the whole coil. Our FPS-400 takes coils of 508/610 mm ID, 800–1,400 mm OD, 100–400 mm wide and up to 2,000 kg, in stretch film, crepe paper, woven belt or two layers at once. Why wrap steel coils automatically
Cold-rolled, galvanised and slit steel coils rust and scratch if they travel bare. Wrapping by hand through the eye of a heavy coil is slow, uneven and puts the packer’s hands near sharp edges. An automatic eye-through wrapper lays an even spiral of paper or film over the inside, outside and both faces, at the same overlap on every coil, while the operator stays at the panel.
The automatic packing cycle
- Entrada. The coil, eye horizontal, runs in on the roller conveyor under the ring head.
- Ring in. The arched ring head with its guide rollers comes down so the ring passes through the eye.
- Envoltura. The ring turns and draws material from the roll, while the carrier rollers turn the coil slowly. The material spirals over the full cross-section.
- Finalizar. After one coil revolution the material is cut and the ring head lifts clear.
- Salida. The wrapped coil runs out on the conveyor, and the next coil runs in.
Carrier roller speed, ring speed, tension and overlap are all set at the panel. A tension brake keeps paper from folding, and PU rollers carry the coil without marking it.

For lighter coils up to 1,000 kg and 600–1,200 mm OD, our FPW-300 steel coil wrapper (1.5 kW; the model name used on its product page) rolls coils in and out.
Worked example: paper per coil
Illustrative coil: 1,200 mm OD, 508 mm ID, 300 mm wide, wrapped in 150 mm paper at 50% overlap, so each ring turn advances 75 mm round the outside.

Resultado. About 50 ring turns and 65 m of paper per coil. Higher overlap, or a second layer of film over VCI paper, raises the material use in proportion.
Choosing the wrap material

The FPS-400 can lay two materials in one pass, so VCI paper and film go on together.

Seguridad: EN 415-10 e ISO 12100
Coil wrappers are built to EN 415-10, with the risk assessment done to ISO 12100. The hazards are the turning ring, the descending ring head, the driven rollers and the coil itself. Guarding and interlocks are sized to the layout in the risk assessment. Before anyone reaches into the coil eye, the ring must be fully stopped, the head raised clear and the machine locked out.
