Executive summary
The way to load and unload a coil on our coil wrapping machine is by sliding, not lifting: the coil moves from a side table at working height onto the wrapping rollers, and back again when it is wrapped. Our FPW-300 ring wrapper takes wire coils of 300–700 mm ID, 450–850 mm OD and 10–250 kg. A worked example calculates the tape for a 150 kg wire coil.

Why loading is the slow part of coil wrapping
On a small ring wrapper the wrap itself is short. What sets the output is how fast the operator gets a coil in and out. If every coil is lifted from the floor into the ring and back, the operator tires and the cycle grows during the shift.
The fix is to keep the coil at one height. The coil slides from a table onto the wrapping rollers, and slides back off when the wrap is done.
Ring wrapper design: side table and roller station
Our FPW-300 type station has a vertical wrapping ring, with guide rollers, that passes through the coil eye. The coil lies flat on driven support rollers, so it turns slowly while the ring wraps. A round staging table on a pedestal stands beside the ring at the same working height, so the coil is slid across rather than lifted.
A hand lever at the station is part of the loading set-up; its exact function depends on the build and we show it at commissioning.
The coils here are red wire coils, wrapped with a woven tape. Unwrapped coils wait on a pallet next to the station.
Load, wrap, unload: the sequence
- Bühne. The operator places the next coil on the side table.
- Belastung. The coil slides across onto the support rollers, with the ring through its eye.
- Anfang. The tape end is tied to the coil and the operator presses start.
- Wickeln. The ring turns and the rollers turn the coil, so the tape overlaps all the way round.
- Schnitt. The tape is cut by hand when the wrap is complete.
- Entladen. The wrapped coil slides back to the table or onto the outfeed, and the next coil comes in.
Our FPW-300 follows the same steps: roll the coil in, tie the tape, start, wrap, cut by hand and roll the coil out.
FPW-300-Daten
From our FPW-300 wire coil wrapping machine page:
| Artikel | FPW-300 |
|---|---|
| Spule ID | 300 – 700 mm |
| Spule OD | 450 – 850 mm |
| Spulenbreite | 100 – 300 mm |
| Coilgewicht | 10-250 kg |
| Verpackungsmaterial | PVC, LLDPE, PE, paper, HDPE; core 50 mm, roll OD 100–250 mm, width 100–120 mm |
| Überlappung | 10-90% |
| Tuning | 1.5 kW, 380 V 50 Hz 3-phase |
| Luftzufuhr | keine |
The ring height adjusts to the coil OD, and tape tension is set with a brake on the tape holder.
Worked example: tape for a 150 kg wire coil
Illustrative coil: ID 500 mm, OD 800 mm, width 250 mm, 150 kg, wrapped with 100 mm tape at 50% overlap.
Fit check. ID, OD, width and weight all sit inside the FPW-300 ranges.
Wickel. Coverage is tightest at the coil ID. Each wrap advances 100 × (1 − 0.5) = 50 mm along the ID circumference of π × 500 ≈ 1,571 mm. That gives 1,571 ÷ 50 ≈ 32 wraps.
Tape per wrap. One wrap goes round the coil section: 2 × (radial depth + width) = 2 × (150 + 250) = 800 mm.
Tape per coil. 32 × 0.8 m ≈ 25.6 m before stretch and the tie-on.
Zeit. At a ring speed of n r/min, the wrap takes about 32 ÷ n minutes. Our small ring wrappers are typically quoted at about 60–100 r/min, which would put this wrap at roughly 19–32 s. Add the load, tie, cut and unload time measured on your coils. We confirm the ring speed and cycle for your coil at quote.
When to move to powered loading
A side table suits coils that one person can slide. Heavier coils, or more coils per shift, call for a powered option:
- a tilting or lifting load table;
- a roller conveyor feeding the ring;
- an unloading device with a weighing scale, so each coil is weighed as it leaves.
The switch point depends on coil weight, coils per shift and your local manual-handling rules, so we agree it with you per project.
On full lines we add automatic tape cutting and a label printer.
Auswahl-Checkliste
- Spulen-Innendurchmesser, Außendurchmesser, Breiten- und Gewichtsbereich.

- Wrapping material: film, paper, woven tape or HDPE.
- How coils arrive: pallet, conveyor or hook.
- Whether you need weighing or labels.
- Destination country, for voltage and the CE file.
Sicherheit: EN 415-10 und ISO 12100
We build the ring wrapper to EN 415-10, with a risk assessment to ISO 12100. The hazards are the turning ring through the coil eye and the driven support rollers. The station has a guardrail and soft start and stop. Loading, tie-on and unloading are done with the ring stopped at its loading position, and the hands stay out of the ring path while it turns. Interlocks for the loading position are specified with the guarding for your market.
Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Technik
Q: Does the operator have to lift the coil? A: Not into the ring. The coil slides from the side table onto the rollers at the same height. It only has to be lifted from the pallet to the table, which a hoist can do for heavier coils.
Q: Can the same station wrap different coil sizes? A: Yes, within 300–700 mm ID and 450–850 mm OD. The ring height is adjusted for the OD.
Q: Which wrapping material is best? A: Film for moisture, paper or woven tape for abrasion, HDPE for both. We set the overlap from 10% to 90% to suit.
Q: Which standard applies? A: EN 415-10 for this ring wrapper, with an ISO 12100 risk assessment.
