Samenvatting
A coil that leaves the plant with bare sections picks up dust, moisture and handling marks, and loose outer turns can spring open. Our simple coil wrapping machine passes stretch film through the eye of the coil while the coil turns slowly on rollers, so the film covers every surface of the coil: the bore (ID), the outer diameter (OD) and both side faces. This page covers the machine structure, the FPW-300 data it is based on, how overlap sets full coverage, film use maths and the data we need to quote.
The machine is compact: a red electric cabinet and wrapping ring head stand beside a yellow base with driven support rollers. A red top arm carries a pressing frame that holds the coil upright from above while the ring runs film through its eye.

Machinestructuur
- Wikkelring: an openable gate section lets the coil in, then locks closed, and turns through the coil eye with the film carriage.
- Steunrollen: on the yellow base, they carry the coil and turn it slowly so each ring pass lands beside the last.
- Top pressing arm: the red arm lowers a frame onto the top of the coil, so the coil stays upright and does not walk on the rollers.
- Filmtransport: holds the film roll with a tension brake, so the film stays flat and does not fold.
- Schakelkast: sets ring speed, coil speed and the number of wraps.
FPW-300 data
This simple machine is built on our FPW-300 wire coil wrapping machine. FPW-300 and our FPS-300 steel coil wrapper are the same machine with the same parameters, set up for different products and fine-tuned to the customer’s coil size.

Light coils with a small eye need a matching ring, so ring size and roller spacing for your coil are confirmed at quote.
What full size coverage means
Full size coverage means the film reaches every surface of the coil with no gaps. That depends on two settings. The overlap between neighbouring film passes must be above zero all the way round. And the coil must turn at least one full revolution, plus the overlap at the end.
The inside of the eye is the shortest path, so overlap is greatest there and smallest on the outside diameter. Full coverage is therefore set by the outside diameter.
Overlap en filmwiskunde
Outer overlap (%) = (1 − coil OD advance per ring pass ÷ film width) × 100.
Ring passes per coil ≈ π × coil OD ÷ (film width × (1 − overlap)).
Film per pass (m) ≈ 2 × (coil width + (coil OD − coil ID) ÷ 2).
Example only: a coil with OD 1.0 m, ID 0.508 m and width 0.3 m wrapped with 0.1 m film at 50% outer overlap needs about π × 1.0 ÷ (0.1 × 0.5) ≈ 63 passes. Each pass uses about 2 × (0.3 + 0.246) ≈ 1.1 m of film before stretch, so about 69 m in total.

Veiligheid
We design coil wrappers to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for electrical equipment. The ring has a guard, and an E-stop sits on the control cabinet.

Q: Why does the coil need a top pressing arm? A: The arm holds the coil upright on the rollers, so it turns steadily and each film pass lands where it should.
Q: Can I wrap with less overlap to save film? A: Yes, if the outer overlap stays above zero; a lower overlap uses fewer passes and less film.
Q: Can it wrap paper as well as film? A: Yes, paper or woven tape can be used with a suitable material roll, confirmed at quote.
Q: What air supply is needed? A: 4–6 bar compressed air for the pneumatic parts.
