What decides the result is the setup: roller spacing, film tension and overlap. This article covers how our simple coil wrapper is set and run.

The wrapper has a white body with a blue arm and clamp. A coil sits on the rollers already closed in clear film, and a driven roller above it turns the coil while the film ring passes through the eye.

Top press roller: holds the coil down so it turns without slipping.

Setting up for a new coil size

Set the support rollers to the coil OD so the eye sits over the ring opening.
Lower the top press roller onto the coil face.
Fit a film roll of the right width and thread it through the carriage.
Set the film tension so the film lies flat without tearing.
Set ring speed and coil speed for the overlap you want.
Wrap one test coil and check the overlap at the inner and outer edge.

Running a coil

Place the coil on the rollers.
Fix the film end to the coil.
Press start; the ring and rollers run together.
After one full coil turn the machine stops.
Cut the film, press the tail down and lift the coil off.

Overlap and speed settings

The overlap is set by the ratio of ring speed to coil speed. The film advances round the outer edge by:

Advance per wrap ≈ film width × (1 − overlap)

Coil turns needed ≈ π × OD ÷ advance

Example only: 60 mm film at 50% overlap advances 30 mm per wrap. A 300 mm OD coil has an outer edge of π × 300 ≈ 942 mm, so 942 ÷ 30 ≈ 31 wraps, or about 16 s at 120 r/min. The inner edge is shorter, so the film there overlaps more; check the overlap at the outer edge, where it is lowest.

The formula gives net wrapping time only. The full cycle adds loading, fixing the film end, the soft start and stop, cutting and unloading, so time a real coil at your site before setting the shift output.

We design to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for the electrical equipment. Keep hands clear of the ring while it runs, and load only with the machine stopped.
