How the top sheet and side wrap work together

The wrapper works in one sequence over a palletized load. A padded top platen descends onto the load and holds the top in place while film from an overhead roll is drawn down the sides and wrapped around the stack. When the wrap reaches the set point, the platen lifts and the load is closed on the top and all four sides in a single cycle, so nothing is left exposed.

The load stays upright on the pallet station through the cycle. As a turntable-with-top-plate build in the A200 class, the same platen geometry can run with a rotating pallet deck, and the layout is matched to the goods and the line at project engineering.

Covered top or open top

Specify the covered top when the receiving side judges the load on its top face. Printed cartons, dusty or rain-exposed transit, and loads that must arrive looking clean all justify the top sheet, because it gives the receiver a sealed load instead of an open deck.

Choose a film-only wrapper when the top face may stay open, such as goods that already carry a lid or are shrink-tolerated. Nearly every mixed warehouse run benefits from a covered top on at least the outer layer, so the decision is made per product in the specification.

Wrap program and height sensing

The program decides how the wrap is laid on. Bottom and top wrap counts and film pitch are set per product in the PLC.

A photo-eye measures each load height, and film is applied with powered pre-stretch before it reaches the load, stretching the film consistently instead of relying on pass tension. For a mixed line, stored programs per product keep the set-up on the panel rather than in the operator’s memory.

The standard delivery is designed to CE (EN ISO 13849-1 / EN 415-10) and OSHA design requirements. A yellow mushroom emergency stop and a protective guard around the platen and film area are standard, and the cycle will not run with the guard open.

For conveyor-linked layouts the standard delivery adds interlocked perimeter fencing, muting safety light curtains at the infeed and outfeed apertures, and dual-channel emergency-stop circuits at each operator position. Q: How fast is the machine? A: 10–30 pallets/hour is the class band. The target rate is confirmed against your line pace at project engineering.

Q: Must I change the program for different stack heights? A: No — the photo-eye measures each load height when it enters, and the PLC sets the wrap to that height automatically, so mixed stack heights run without a program change.
