An integrated automatic band strapping machine takes low stacks of books, boxes or magazines from its own infeed table, carries each stack on a twin belt to an overhead banding head, and wraps and seals a band around it — replacing hand strapping that slows a publishing, printing or distribution line. Because the band is applied at a fixed position each cycle, every bundle leaves square and uniform for transport or storage. This guide explains why low stacks are banded, how the machine applies the band, what to specify, and what to verify before acceptance. It is written for plant engineers and production managers in book, magazine and box distribution who package small, boxed stacks.
The video below shows a stack placed on the infeed, carried across the belt, banded by the overhead head, and taken from the outfeed:
Why Band Low Stacks of Paper
A stack of books or magazines slides apart at the edges unless it is held. A single band keeps the stack square so it moves and stores as one unit, and banding each stack as it passes keeps the line moving without hand tying. Compared with hand strapping:
| Ülesanne | Hand strapping | Automatic banding station |
|---|---|---|
| Bändi asend | Sõltub operaatorist | Same place on every stack |
| Liinivool | Pauses while each stack is tied by hand | Belt feed keeps the cycle moving |
| Tension and seal | Sõltub operaatorist | Machine-set and repeatable |
| Operaatori roll | Ties each bundle | Loads and unloads the station |
Stack size and band size are confirmed per project.
How the Machine Applies the Band
The operator places a stack on the infeed table, and a twin belt carries it to the banding position at a steady pace. An overhead head lowers over the stack, feeds the band around the bundle, tensions and seals it, then returns while the stack moves to the outfeed.
| Stage | Mis juhtub |
|---|---|
| Söötmislaud | Bench-level table; the operator places the stack straight. |
| Twin belt | Carries the stack to the head at a steady pace. |
| Banding head | Feed, wrap, tension and seal in one overhead cycle. |
| Väljavool | The banded bundle is delivered for the operator to take. |
The vertical head keeps the band square over the stack. Stack height, feed pace, band width and sealing method are confirmed per project.
Mida täpsustada
Give the manufacturer the following per project:
| Sisend | Miks see on oluline |
|---|---|
| Stack size (height, width, weight) | Sets belt width, head travel and station rating. |
| Band (width, type, tension) | Sets the head and sealing unit. |
| Ribad virna kohta | Sets the program and pitch. |
| Cycle per stack | Sizes the drive and automation level. |
| Layout (bench height, floor space) | Sets infeed and outfeed integration. |
| Elektrivarustus (pinge, faas, sagedus) | Sets the control and drive specification. |
Operation, Safety and Acceptance
Place a stack on the infeed and start the cycle; the belt carries it to the head, the band wraps and seals, and the operator takes the finished bundle from the outfeed. Keep clear of the head and the belt while the machine runs, and confirm the stack is straight before banding. Routine checks cover the belt, the banding head and the sealer, per the machine manual.
Before acceptance, review the testing record:
- Pikendatud jooks. The manufacturer’s stated practice on this machine family includes extended near-continuous pre-delivery testing before dispatch.
- Kontroll ja ohutus. Confirm the control system and the emergency stop function were verified before delivery.
- Saabumisel. Run an empty cycle, a loaded cycle, and verify the emergency stop.
- Mähise pakendamine: töö ja rakendused – A fully automated packing line from the same family; wrapping and strapping stations run in sequence.
- Fast Orbital Wrapping Machine – Automated film wrapping commonly applied after banded bundles are unitized.
On safety, FHOPE packaging machinery is engineered with EN 415-10 as the packaging-machinery safety reference and an ISO 12100 risk assessment for the moving head, belt and feed areas. Treat these as engineering safety references rather than a per-machine certificate, and confirm certification per project.
KKK
Q: What does this machine do?
A: It applies a band around low stacks of books, boxes and magazines.
Q: Why band the stacks at all?
A: A band holds the stack square, so it moves and stores as one unit instead of sliding apart.
Q: How does the stack move?
A: A twin belt carries it from the infeed table to the banding head.
Q: How is the band applied?
A: The overhead head feeds the band around the stack, tensions it and seals it.
Q: Does it suit only paper products?
A: Books, magazines and boxed items moving in low stacks; confirm your stack material and size per project.
