Resumen ejecutivo
A steel wire coil can rust in a damp container within weeks, and loose outer turns spring open when the coil is lifted. Our steel wire wrap machine runs a ring through the coil eye and lays film, woven tape or paper around every face while the coil turns on rollers. This guide covers the machine, our FPW-300 and FPS-400 data, how to choose the wrap material against rust, the overlap and cycle maths, and a checklist for buying and commissioning.
This FHOPE wrapper has a green steel frame, an orange safety guard around the ring and an open ring with guide pulleys. The operator rolls the coil onto the support rollers at the base, the ring closes through the eye, and blue wrap material builds up around the coil as it turns.

How the wrap machine works
- Carga: the coil is rolled, craned or fork-lifted onto the support rollers with its eye vertical to the ring.
- Close the ring: the opening section of the ring closes through the coil eye.
- Envolver: the ring turns and lays material through the eye and around the outside; the rollers turn the coil slowly so each pass overlaps the last.
- Acabado: after one full coil revolution plus overlap, the ring stops at its opening position and the material is cut, by hand or by an optional cutter, confirmed at quote.
- Descargar: the wrapped coil rolls off for strapping or palletising.

FPS-400 is shown as the next size up, for coils heavier than 1,000 kg or wider than 300 mm. Both machines wrap steel wire coils and slit steel strip coils; the coil on the rollers above is a strip-type coil.
Elegir el material de envoltura
- Film estirable: seals out dust and splash, low cost; on its own it can trap condensation.
- Crepe paper: breathes and protects the surface from scuffs; often used as the first layer.
- Woven belt (PE/PP tape): tough against handling damage at the outer turns.
- Doble capa: the FPS-400 can lay two materials at once, for example VCI paper or film under stretch film, for long sea shipments.
For wire that will travel by sea, a VCI layer under stretch film is the common choice. Dry coils before wrapping; a warm, damp coil sealed in film will rust from the inside.
Overlap and cycle maths
Coil advance per ring pass (mm) ≈ film width × (1 − overlap).
Ring passes ≈ π × coil OD ÷ advance per pass.
Tiempo de envoltura (s) ≈ pasadas del anillo ÷ velocidad del anillo (r/min) × 60.
Example only: a coil with OD 1,000 mm, wrapped with 100 mm material at 50% overlap, advances 50 mm per pass, so it needs about π × 1,000 ÷ 50 ≈ 63 passes. At 60 r/min that takes about 63 ÷ 60 × 60 ≈ 63 s, plus loading and cutting time. Ring speed for your coil is confirmed at quote.
Comprobaciones de puesta en servicio
- Ring closes cleanly through the smallest coil eye.
- Material tension: film lies flat with no folds; the tension brake is set.
- Overlap measured on the outside diameter, not the eye.
- Coil turns smoothly on the rollers without walking sideways.
- E-stop and guard interlock stop the ring.

Seguridad
We design coil wrappers to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for electrical equipment. The ring runs inside a guard, and an E-stop stops it at once.
