> A wire coil straight off the take-up stand is loose and tall. It wastes truck space and the turns shift when the coil is lifted. A wire coil compressing machine presses the coil down on its basket, then PET straps hold it at the compacted height. For plants that want compaction without a full automatic line, our equivalent solution is a ground-based semi-automatic compactor with manual strapping.
Bright galvanized wire sits on a basket with a centre stem and vertical rods. While the coil is held compacted, an operator threads green PET strap through the coil and around the outside. A pneumatic hand strapping tool then tensions and seals each strap. The finished coils stand square and tight on the floor, one still on its basket and one already lifted off.

Why compact before strapping
Straps put on a loose coil only hold it at its loose height. When the coil settles in transport, the straps go slack and the turns slide. Pressing the coil first and strapping it under load locks in the lower height. The coil then stays tight, stacks better and raises the shipping density per tonne.
secuencia de máquina
1. The coil on its basket is brought to the compactor.
2. The basket is centred under the press.
3. The press comes down and compacts the coil automatically.
4. With the coil held, the operator threads PET straps through the coil eye.
5. Each strap is tensioned and sealed with the hand strapping tool.
6. The press lifts and the strapped coil is taken off the basket.
Existing baskets can be used with this semi-automatic layout. Full automatic compactors add strapping heads and a conveyor to the strapping position.
Datos del compactador
| Artículo | Valor |
| :--- | :--- |
| Compaction | hydraulic, automatic |
| Strapping | manual after compacting (semi-automatic) |
| Maximum compacting force | 10–20 t |
| Coil height after compacting | normally around 800 mm |
| Strap | PET or steel |
| Press supports | HDPE |
| Protection | soft start and stop, multiple limit protection |
The compacted height depends on wire gauge, the start height and the basket stem height. For reference, our fully automatic wire rod compactor works at 210 bar hydraulic pressure with a 30–40 second cycle, for coils of OD 1,000–1,800 mm and 500–2,000 kg. Pressure, cycle time and basket clearance for the semi-automatic compactor are confirmed at quote.
Strap count and height
**Strap length ≈ 2 × coil height + (coil OD − coil ID) + joint allowance**
Example only: a coil 800 mm high with OD 1,100 mm and ID 600 mm needs 2 × 800 + (1,100 − 600) = 2,100 mm of strap around one section. With a 200 mm allowance for the joint overlap and the tool's tensioning take-up, each strap is about 2,300 mm. Four straps then use about 9.2 m per coil.
Four straps at 90° spacing are common for wire coils. Soft or slippery wire may need more. The strap count for your coil is confirmed at quote.
PET strap or steel strap
PET strap keeps some stretch, so it holds tension when the coil settles, and it does not rust onto galvanized wire. Steel strap is stronger per width and suits heavy rod coils. The strap choice changes the sealing tool, not the compactor.
Lista de verificación de selección
1. Wire type: galvanized, black or coated.
2. Coil OD, ID, height and weight.
3. Basket or stem type you use today.
4. Bobinas por hora.
5. PET or steel strap, and straps per coil.
6. Semi-automatic or fully automatic strapping.
Seguridad
We design our compactors to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for the electrical equipment. The press stops automatically at its limits. Manual strapping is done at a set operator position while the coil is held.
Preguntas frecuentes sobre ingeniería
Q: Can I keep my existing baskets?
A: Yes, the ground-based semi-automatic compactor works with existing baskets.
Q: How much does the coil height drop?
A: After compacting, coil height is normally around 800 mm. The drop depends on wire gauge, the loose height from your take-up stand and the stem height.
Q: Can the coil be wrapped after strapping?
A: Yes, stretch film or PVC wrapping can follow to protect against rust, water spots and dust.
