Executive summary
A master horizontal wrapping machine is a horizontal orbital wrapper: a ring carrying a film roll turns around a long bundle as conveyors carry the bundle through it. The film goes on in a tight spiral that covers all four long sides. Ours wraps bundles of 1,000–6,000 mm long and 100–2,000 kg at 2–9 m/min. A worked example sets the ring speed and film width for 50% overlap.

So funktioniert der horizontale Wrapper
The bundle lies on a green infeed conveyor. Before the ring, a sheet of clear film is drawn from a roll and laid over the top of the bundle, so the top face is covered in one piece. A set of pressing rollers comes down onto the top of the bundle, so the pieces stay together while the film goes on.
The wrapping ring turns inside a tall yellow guard housing, carrying the film roll around the bundle. As the infeed conveyor pushes the bundle forward through the ring, the film lays on in a spiral. The outfeed conveyor on the other side takes the wrapped bundle away.
The result is a tight, clear skin of stretch film over the whole length, with the top sheet held under the spiral. Because the film is stretched as it goes on, it pulls the pieces together and holds them as one unit for lifting and shipping.
Ring speed, conveyor speed and overlap
The overlap between one turn of film and the next is set by two speeds. The bundle moves forward a distance a for every turn of the ring:
a = v ÷ n
Here v is the conveyor speed and n is the ring speed. With a film width W, the overlap is 1 − a ÷ W. A faster conveyor or a slower ring gives less overlap and uses less film. A slower conveyor or a faster ring gives more layers and a stronger pack.
Wrapper data
| Artikel | Wert |
|---|---|
| Bündelbreite × Höhe | 800–1,500 × 800–1,500 mm |
| Bündellänge | 1,000 – 6,000 mm |
| Bündelgewicht | 100-2,000 kg |
| Ringgeschwindigkeit | 30–60 U/min |
| Verpackungsgeschwindigkeit | 2–9 m/Min |
| Überlappung | 20-80% |
| Material | PE-Stretchfolie, Strickband, VCI-Papier |
| Tuning | 6.5 kW, AC 380 V 50 Hz |
For long round products, the version for 800–2,000 mm OD runs at 20–60 r/min and 2–10 m/min.
Worked example: a 6 m bundle
Illustrative bundle: 1,000 mm wide, 800 mm high, 6,000 mm long, 1,500 kg, wrapped with 300 mm film.
| Einblick in das | Berechnung | Lösung |
|---|---|---|
| Fits the machine | 1,000 × 800 mm, 6,000 mm, 1,500 kg | ja |
| Advance per ring turn at 6 m/min and 40 r/min | 6,000 ÷ 40 | 150mm |
| Overlap with 300 mm film | 1 − 150 ÷ 300 | 50% |
| Ring turns over the bundle | 6,000 ÷ 150 | 40 |
| Bündelumfang | 2 × (1.0 + 0.8) | 3.6 m |
| Film laid on the bundle | 40 × 3.6 | 144 m |
| Wickelzeit | 6 ÷ 6 | 1 Minuten |
Ergebnis. At 6 m/min and 40 r/min, 300 mm film goes on at 50% overlap, so every point has two layers. The bundle takes 40 turns and about 144 m of film, measured on the bundle, in about a minute.
The roll gives out less than 144 m because the film stretches as it goes on. For a third layer, drop the conveyor to 4 m/min at the same ring speed: the advance falls to 100 mm and the overlap rises to 67%. Extra turns at the head and tail of the bundle, set in the program, add film and time on top of these figures.
Film, belt or paper, and full coverage
Clear stretch film is the usual choice: it is cheap, tight and lets the product be seen. Knit belt is tougher where the bundle has sharp corners. VCI paper protects metal profiles from corrosion, and it can go under film.
A spiral alone leaves the ends open. Where the product must be fully covered, we offer four ways to do it:
- Six-sided wrapping, with both lengthwise and crosswise wrapping.
- Film covering before wrapping, with PE or bubble film over the product.
- Top-Filmabdeckung, as on this machine. It uses less PE film than full covering, but the machine costs more.
- Film covering on the two ends. It uses the least film, but the process is more complex and the price is higher.
For products that can take heat, shrink packing is another option and gives a neater pack.
Auswahl-Checkliste
- Bundle width, height, length and weight.
- Wrapping material and the number of layers.
- Line rate in bundles per hour.
- Längen der Ein- und Auslaufbänder.
- End covering, labelling and stacking.
Sicherheit: EN 415-10 und ISO 12100
We design the wrapper to EN 415-10 and assess its risks to ISO 12100. The main hazards are the turning ring, the pressing rollers and the moving conveyors. The ring runs inside its guard housing, and the operator works from the control panel, outside the wrapping zone.
Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Technik
Q: How is the overlap set? A: By the ratio of conveyor speed to ring speed, against the film width.
Q: What keeps the bundle together while it is wrapped? A: Pressing rollers hold the top of the bundle until the film is on.
Q: Can it wrap the ends? A: The spiral covers the four long sides. Six-sided wrapping or end film covering closes the ends too.
Q: What does the top film do? A: It covers the top face in one sheet before the spiral goes on, for better dust and rain protection.
F: Welche Norm ist anzuwenden? A: EN 415-10 für die Maschine und ISO 12100 für die Risikobewertung.
