Aluminium-Verpackungsmaschine: Technologie und bewährte Verfahren

Executive summary

An aluminum packing machine has to protect a soft, bright, non-magnetic metal that marks easily and stains when moisture is trapped against it. For aluminum coils our horizontal eye-through wrapper lays the coil flat on a roller table, supports its full face and wraps it through the eye. The FPC-300 takes coils of 10–1,000 kg, OD 700–1,200 mm and width 10–300 mm, with a ring speed of 5–100 r/min.

On this line, a narrow coil lies flat on yellow rollers while the ring wraps it in white material through the eye. The wrapped coil then runs out on a powered roller conveyor past a label station, and finished coils are placed on wooden bearers.

Why aluminum needs different packing

Aluminum differs from steel in four ways that change the packing machine.

Eigenschaft Effect on packing Maschinenantwort
Weiche Oberfläche Rollers, clamps and forks leave marks Coil supported flat; covered rollers and friction wheels
Glänzendes Finish Scratches and fingerprints are visible defects Wrap applied without hand contact
Nicht magnetisch Magnet heads cannot lift or stack it Vacuum head or gripper arm for stacking
Light for its size More coils per pallet for the same weight Stacking pattern set by height, not only weight

Trapped moisture is the other risk. Water held between turns or under a loose wrap leaves stains on the surface. A tight, fully overlapped wrap applied to a dry coil keeps moisture out.

The technology: horizontal eye-through wrapping

The coil lies flat, eye-vertical, on a roller table. The ring passes through the eye and turns, laying film, paper or woven belt around the coil section, while the rollers turn the coil so each pass covers the next band. Ring height adjusts automatically or manually to the coil OD, and the ring runs on polyurethane friction wheels.

Lying flat matters for aluminum. The full bottom face is supported, so a thin, narrow coil does not bend or deform while it turns. The same horizontal design wraps strip as narrow as 8 mm.

Best practices for aluminum coils

  1. Wrap dry. Pack only dry coils, so no water is sealed in.
  2. Overlap fully. Set the overlap so there are no gaps at the outer face, where bands spread furthest apart.
  3. Seal the tail. Automatic tail sealing by tape or heat leaves no loose end to catch and tear.
  4. Tape the OD. Automatic taping round the coil OD holds the outer turn before wrapping.
  5. Stack without magnets. Use a vacuum head or gripper arm, and place coils on bearers so forks do not touch the metal.

FPC-300 data

Artikel FPC-300
Coilgewicht 10-1,000 kg
Spulenbreite 10 – 300 mm
Spule OD 700 – 1,200 mm
Spule ID 400 – 900 mm
OD minus ID 600 mm
Walzengeschwindigkeit 2–4 m/Min
Ringgeschwindigkeit 5–100 U/min
versorgung 380 V, 50/60 Hz, 3 Phasen
Material woven belt, paper, stretch film; roll ID 50/76 mm, OD 150–450 mm, width 90–120 mm

Worked example: an aluminum slit coil

Take an aluminum coil with OD 1,000 mm, ID 508 mm and width 200 mm, wrapped with 100 mm film at 50% overlap. Aluminum density is 2,700 kg/m³.

Schritt Berechnung Lösung
Gesichtsbereich π/4 × (1.0² − 0.508²) 0.583 m²
Volumen 0.583 × 0.20 0.117 m³
Aluminum weight 0.117 × 2,700 über 315 kg
Same coil in steel 0.117 × 7,850 über 915 kg
Fits FPC-300? 10–1,000 kg; OD 700–1,200; ID 400–900; OD − ID = 492 < 600 ja
Äußerer Umfang π × 1,000 Über 3,142 mm
Ring dreht sich 3,142 ÷ 50 über 63
Coil surface speed at 60 r/min 50 mm × 60 3 m/min, inside 2–4 m/min
Zeitumschlag 63 ÷ 60 ca. 63 s

Zeilenausgang. On a complete slit coil line with wrapping, labelling and stacking, our rating is 20–40 coils per hour for narrow coils, so the 63 s wrap fits inside a 90–180 s line cycle. The label is printed and applied on the exit conveyor before stacking.

Ergebnis. The aluminum coil weighs about a third of the same steel coil, so a pallet carries more coils before reaching its weight limit. The ring and roller speeds both sit inside the FPC-300 ranges at 60 r/min.

Sicherheit: EN 415-10 und ISO 12100

The coil wrapper and its line integration are built to EN 415-10, the general safety requirements for packaging machines, with the risk assessment done to ISO 12100. Guard fencing closes the ring zone, and coils are positioned before the cycle starts.

Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Technik

Q: Why not stand the aluminum coil upright to wrap it? A: An upright coil rests on a short arc of the rollers. A flat coil is supported over its full face, so a soft or narrow coil does not deform.

Q: Can magnets stack aluminum coils? A: No. Aluminum is not magnetic, so we use a vacuum head or a gripper arm.

Q: Is the film tail sealed automatically? A: Yes, by taping or heat sealing after wrapping.

Q: What coil range does the FPC-300 take? A: 10–1,000 kg, OD 700–1,200 mm, ID 400–900 mm and width 10–300 mm.
