Foam boxes and light cartons are hard to strap: a plastic strap at high tension cuts into the foam, and hand taping is slow and uneven. An automatic tape banding machine runs the box on a belt conveyor through an arch, lays tape bands around it at set positions and seals them, so every box leaves closed the same way. This page covers the machine layout, the settings on the HMI, the tape data and how to work out output per hour.
A white foam box rides a green belt conveyor into an orange arch. The tape head puts two yellow bands around it, and the box comes out with lid and base held tight. Band positions and counts are set on the touch screen beside the arch.

Why use tape banding for foam boxes and light cartons
EPS foam boxes for fresh food and parts have soft edges. A PP strap concentrates force on a thin line and bites into them. A tape band is wider and sticks to the box, so it holds the lid with low tension and no dent. It also cannot slide off the box during handling, and the box can still be stacked flat.

- Nastro trasportatore: the box rides on a flat belt that carries it through the arch at a steady speed.
- Arch and tape head: the arch carries the tape around the box; the head tensions, cuts and seals the band.
- Top guide: a vertical guide above the belt steadies the box during each band.
- Touch screen: the HMI next to the arch holds the recipes for each box size.
- Uscita: the banded box continues on the belt to packing or palletising. Where cartons also need top and bottom seams closed, a sigillante per cartoni runs before the arch.
What you set on the HMI
- Numero di bande: 2 or 4 per box.
- Band positions: distance from the box front edge for each band.
- Tensione: low for foam, higher for cartons.
- Recipe per box size: saved and called up at size change.

Larger arches for bigger boxes, and air pressure, are confirmed at quote.
Produzione oraria
Boxes per hour = 3,600 ÷ (bands × time per band + transfer time). With 2 bands at 2 s each and 4 s to move the box in and out, a cycle is 8 s, so the machine bands about 450 boxes per hour (example only). Four bands raise the cycle to 12 s and output to about 300 per hour. Match this to your filling or lidding line before choosing band count.

Sicurezza
We design tape banding machines to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for electrical equipment. The arch and the seal head are guarded, and an E-stop sits at the HMI.

Q: Will the band crush a foam box? A: No; tension is set low on the HMI and the wide tape spreads the force.
Q: Can it run mixed box sizes? A: Yes, within the arch size. Batches are switched by calling up a recipe; random mixed sizes on one line need an upstream barcode or size sensor to select the recipe.
Q: Can printed tape be used? A: Yes, printed tape works as a brand or seal mark.
Q: Does it need an operator? A: Only to load boxes onto the belt, or none when fed by a conveyor.
