Why bearings need specialized protection

Industrial bearings are manufactured from high-carbon chromium steel or similar high-grade alloys, and that steel is inherently vulnerable to oxidation. Exposure to humidity, fluctuating temperatures or aggressive atmospheres can start corrosion on a finished bearing. A bearing is a precision part, so its package has to keep oxidation and physical damage away. The bearing range and environment are confirmed per project.

The machine packs bearings automatically, wrapping each bearing with protective film so it leaves the line protected for storage and dispatch. Rotary ring technology applies the wrap, and the film plan defends the bearing against corrosion and physical damage. Because the machine wraps the same way on every bearing, one bearing’s package is the next’s. The covered steps and film plan are confirmed per project.

The machine uses a rotary ring to apply the wrap, the ring carrying the film around the bearing as it is positioned. Rotary application gives an even, complete cover around the bearing’s outer surfaces without an operator guiding the film. The ring applies the same passes on each bearing, so the wrap is uniform run after run. Ring and film settings follow the bearing’s size, confirmed per project.

VCI film protection

The wrap plan includes VCI film, which carries corrosion inhibitors that protect the steel in the sealed package. VCI film is chosen because it defends the metal against oxidation while the bearing sits in storage or moves in transit. The film plan combines the physical cover with the corrosion protection the bearing’s steel needs. The VCI and film choice is confirmed per project against the bearing and its journey.

PLC controlled system

The machine runs on a PLC controlled system, which sets and holds the wrapping parameters for repeatable operation. A PLC lets the operator select the wrap plan for the bearing and keeps every bearing to that plan automatically. Controlled wrapping removes the variance that manual film on a precision part brings. The PLC program and wrap recipes are confirmed per project.

High-carbon chromium steel range

The machine is built for the high-carbon chromium steel components at the heart of industrial bearings, a range where corrosion protection is not optional. These components are finished and precisely made, so the package has to be as consistent as the part. The bearing range and its protection needs are confirmed per project against the components actually packed.

Run the recipe from the panel and the machine wraps each bearing automatically per the PLC program. Keep clear of the rotary ring, film path and outfeed while the machine runs, with guarding and emergency stops at the operator position. Routine checks cover the ring, film carriage, VCI film feed, sensors and control, per the machine manual. Confirm the wrap recipe against the bearing before each run so packages stay uniform.
