Executive summary

Big-size coil packaging holds a large annular coil between a lower tray and a closing upper clamp, then a rotating wrap head lays stretch film around it. Why big annular coils need a clamp wrap station

A large annular coil is awkward to wrap by hand: the outer turns loosen, and the faces pick up dirt. A station that clamps the coil and rotates a wrap head around it keeps the package square and leaves both faces and the OD covered without a second lift for wrapping.

This layout suits coils that arrive by crane or forklift and leave the same way. It differs from a wide-face orbital wrapper that runs a ring carriage around a coil on a support platform. Here the upper clamp closes first, then the head turns with the coil held.

Layout: lower tray, upper clamp and rotating head

The coil sits on a fixed lower tray. An upper clamp moves down and closes on the coil so it cannot walk during wrap. A rotating wrap head then turns and draws stretch film around the coil until the set overlap and layer count are reached. The clamp opens and the wrapped coil is lifted off.

A signal light column at the panel shows run status. Soft start on the rotate drive limits shock on a heavy coil. Film width, tension and overlap are set per project.

Our blue and yellow big-size coil wrapping station uses a yellow lower tray and a closing upper clamp with yellow rollers. The operator places the annular coil on the tray while the clamp is open; the clamp closes to hold the coil; the upper assembly then rotates to apply the wrap. The control panel sits on the front of the yellow base with a red/yellow/green light tower. FHOPE marking is on the upper white panel.

FPS-800 matches medium big coils that roll in on a trolley. Heavier or wider master coils move to the FPS-2000 crane class. Exact clamp opening, roller pad material and head speed are confirmed on the order drawing.

Worked example: evaluating an 1,100 mm OD coil for FPS-800 vs FPS-2000

Illustrative coil: OD 1,100 mm, ID 508 mm, width 500 mm, fill 0.95, steel 7,850 kg/m³.

Gewicht. Volume ≈ π/4 × (1.1² − 0.508²) × 0.5 = 0.375 m³. Mass ≈ 0.375 × 7,850 × 0.95 ≈ 2,800 kg — above the FPS-800 1,000 kg limit, so this steel coil needs the FPS-2000 crane class (or a custom frame). Scale to aluminium at 2,700 kg/m³: mass ≈ 960 kg, inside FPS-800, with OD 1,100 mm and width 500 mm both inside the FPS-800 bands.

Wrap turns (illustrative). With 250 mm film at 50% overlap, advance = 125 mm. Turns around OD ≈ π × 1.1 / 0.125 ≈ 27.6 for one OD pass; multi-layer wraps and face coverage scale from the set program.

Wegbringen. OD and width can fit FPS-800 while weight forces a class change. Submit exact coil weight with your dimensional range to verify sizing.

Sicherheit und EN 415-10

For CE markets we use EN 415-10 as the packaging-machine reference, with a risk assessment to ISO 12100. The main hazards are the closing clamp, the rotating head and the load interface. Keep clear of the clamp stroke and the wrap envelope while the head turns. Perimeter fencing or light curtains, emergency stop and light-tower status are confirmed on the project risk file to meet EN 415-10 safeguarding.
