Plywood and engineered panel bundles are long, flat and heavy. Hand wrapping them is slow and the film tension drifts from one bundle to the next. A polywood (plywood) packing line puts bearer blocks under each bundle, wraps it with stretch film in an orbital ring while it moves through, and buffers the finished bundles for the forklift. This page covers the stations, how to size the wrapping ring from the bundle, and what to send for a quote.

A row of wooden bearer blocks waits on an infeed table while a panel stack comes in from the side. The blocks are set under the stack, and the bundle runs on a chain conveyor into an orbital ring that wraps film around its length. Wrapped bundles leave through the fenced line, with a second ring further along for cross wrapping.

Why panel bundles need machine wrapping

Laminated faces scratch when panels slide, and edges swell if water gets in. Straps alone hold the stack but leave the faces open. Stretch film at even tension locks the panels together and keeps out dust and rain. Bearer blocks under the bundle let the forklift lift it without touching the bottom panel.

  1. Block feed: bearer blocks are lined up on the block table at the spacing set for the bundle length.
  2. Stack in: the panel stack is transferred onto the blocks.
  3. बताना: a chain conveyor carries the bundle into the wrapper at a steady speed.
  4. Orbital wrap: the ring turns around the moving bundle and lays film along its length.
  5. Cross wrap (optional): a second ring or a strapping station adds bands across the bundle.
  6. बफर: finished bundles collect on the outfeed for forklift pickup.

Sizing the ring to the bundle

The bundle passes straight through while the ring and film carriage rotate around it, so the ring must clear the bundle diagonal plus the film roll. Bundle diagonal = √(width² + height²). For a bundle 1,500 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, the diagonal is about 2,121 mm. Our engineers specify a ring ID above 2,300 mm for that bundle, which puts the ring OD above 2,500 mm. Floor space and building height follow from the ring OD.

Typical bundle sizes

Width × height (mm) Diagonal (mm) Ring ID needed
Small panel bundle 1,000 × 300 1,044
Full sheet bundle 1,220 × 600 1,360

Single laminated sheets up to 2,440 × 1,000 mm are also wrapped one by one on a horizontal orbital wrapper; ring size and line speed are confirmed at quote.

  1. Bundle length, width, height and weight range?
  3. Bearer blocks, pallets or nothing under the bundle?
  4. Stretch film, HDPE or other wrap material?
  5. Loading by crane, forklift or conveyor?
  6. Cross straps or second wrap needed?

We design panel packing lines to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for packaging machine safety and EN 60204-1 for electrical equipment, with control safety to ISO 13849-1. The rotating rings and moving bundles are fenced, with interlocked gates and E-stops.

Q: Why place blocks before wrapping? A: Film then wraps over the blocks too, so they cannot fall out in handling.

Q: Can one line run different bundle sizes? A: Yes, within the ring size; block spacing and film overlap change per recipe.

Q: Is the bundle turned during wrapping? A: No, the ring turns around the bundle as it moves through.

Q: What decides the ring size? A: The bundle diagonal plus clearance for the film carriage.
