A film layer around the stack holds the boards together and keeps the surface clean until the load is opened.

Wrapping a heavy timber stack by hand is slow and uneven. A machine that draws film down over the stack and presses it into place gives the same tight result each time. Stack size and film setup are confirmed per project.

What the machine does

The machine is a timber strapping and wrapping unit. A rectangular stack of boards sits on a roller line. A side roll feeds transparent film over the stack, a red pressure head lowers to press the film against the load, and the stack moves forward on the line as the wrap completes.

The machine works on the stack as it passes, so the film covers the top and sides evenly. The wrap pattern and the line position are confirmed per project.

Film down against the stack

The footage shows a roll of film on the side of the machine being drawn across the top of the timber stack, then pulled down and into place as the stack stands on the line. Guide rollers keep the film flat as it is paid out.

Because the film is laid across a moving stack and pressed against it, the wrap follows the shape of the boards without leaving a loose sheet on top. Film width and tension are confirmed per project.

Press, seal and moving on

When the film is in place, the pressure head lowers onto the stack to press the wrap tight and seal the sides, then lifts and returns. The wrapped stack then continues along the roller line ready for the next step or for lifting off.

The press action is what turns a loose film sheet into a wrap that stays on the load. The press stroke and seal method are confirmed per project.

What the footage shows

Our footage shows a timber wrapping machine drawing film over a rectangular board stack, pressing it into place, and moving the wrapped stack along the line. It is a general demonstration, so your stack size, film type and output layout are confirmed with us per project.

Typical configuration

Figures below list functional design boundaries rather than numeric values, and are confirmed per project.

Parameter

Typical range, confirmed per project

Load

rectangular timber stack

Film

roll fed from the side

Press

red pressure head

Line

roller conveyor

Output

wrapped stack moving on

Electrical supply

380 V three phase 50 Hz, or 220 V single phase for light machines, selected per project

Selection checklist

Question

Confirm per project

Load range

stack length, width, height

Film

width, grade, tension

Press

stroke, seal method

Line

conveyor height, speed

Strapping

banding requirement

Electrical supply

voltage, phase and frequency on site

The strapping and wrapping steps can be integrated in either order around the same line, so each stack gets the banding and film it needs. Keep clear of the conveyor, the film path and the press head while the machine runs, with guarding around the moving parts.

Routine checks cover the film feed, the press head and the conveyor drive, per the machine manual. Confirm the film settings against the stack before each run.

Engineering FAQ

Q: What does this machine do?
A: It draws film over a timber stack, presses it in place, and moves the wrapped stack on.

Q: Why press the film in place?
A: So the loose sheet becomes a tight wrap that stays on the load.

Q: Does the stack keep moving?
A: Yes, the load travels on a roller line through the wrapping step.

Q: What does it suit?
A: Rectangular timber and board stacks.

Q: What does the footage prove?
A: A full film, press and dispatch cycle on one timber stack in one continuous demonstration.

Next step

Email us at info@fhopepack.com with your stack size.

We send a timber wrapping proposal and a layout drawing within 48 hours.

We arrange a site survey to confirm film type and line layout.

Related reading

Timber strapping and wrapping machine

Stretch wrapping machines

Strapping machines

FHOPE packing machinery product lines

Sources and standards

ISO 12100:2010 Safety of machinery, general principles for design and risk assessment

EN 415-10:2014 Safety of packaging machines, general requirements

EN ISO 13849-1:2023 Safety of machinery, safety-related parts of control systems

FHOPE wooden timber strapping and wrapping machine demonstration video.
