A horizontal orbital wrapper is one answer: the ring rotates around the standing pallet and lays stretch film in even layers.

Use this page to decide whether this ring version fits your load flow, and to see which data FHOPE asks for to size one.

How the ring wrap works on a line

The line is a through-type roller conveyor: the palletized load is positioned in the wrap station, and a horizontal ring arm rotates around it while film unwinds from the roll on the arm. When the wrapping cycle is complete, the load moves to the exit conveyor.

Because the load does not turn, the stack keeps its geometry from infeed to outfeed. The ring rotates around the stationary load while film is applied.

What the demo footage supports

The footage shows a palletized load on a roller conveyor, the ring arm rotating around the standing load, and the wrapped pallet exiting on the conveyor. Operators steady the load for positioning, and a mesh safety fence surrounds the wrap station.

It is a general demonstration. It does not show rated capacity, maximum load size, cycle time, or film grade, so those are not listed here as numbers; they are set to your load in the sizing step below.

Sizing and configuration

This machine is sized from your load, not from a fixed rating plate. Confirm the following data with FHOPE when you ask for a proposal:

Data to confirm

What it determines

Pallet width, length and height (mm)

Ring travel diameter and whether the load clears the ring

Load weight (kg)

Roller conveyor and ring drive duty

Film grade, width and gauge (mm)

Film feed and wrap passes

Wrap program (layers, overlap, passes)

Cycle time and film cost per pallet

Infeed/outfeed length and transfer height (mm)

Conveyor sections and line footprint

Electrical supply (voltage, phase, frequency)

Drive and control build; engineered to customer site standards upon RFQ confirmation

Common arrangement points: a mesh safety fence around the wrap zone and a horizontal ring arm that carries the film roll. Every row in the table is confirmed to your site conditions before the build.

Where this version stops fitting

A through-type horizontal orbital wrapper is the right shape when loads move in one direction on a line and only the vertical faces need film. Consider the alternatives when one of these is true:

The load diagonal is close to or above the ring opening; check the ring clears the tallest, widest load before sizing.

The top face must be covered by the same run; a horizontal ring applies film to the sides only, so a top-cover or shrink stage is a separate step.

Straps or edge protection must be added; this machine wraps film only.

The hall cannot fit a straight conveyor section; a turntable or robot wrapper is the usual fallback for spot wrapping at any pallet, at the cost of a turning step.

Quote the layout drawing and the extremes of your load range, and the reply will state plainly which machine fits.

Engineering FAQ

Q: How does an orbital wrapping machine apply film?
A: A horizontal ring arm rotates around the stationary pallet load and unwinds stretch film from a roll carried on the arm.

Q: Does the load turn during wrapping?
A: No. The load stays on the conveyor and the ring moves around it, so the stack keeps its orientation from infeed to outfeed.

Q: Can this version put film on top of the load?
A: No. The horizontal ring wraps the vertical faces only; a top cover or shrink stage is a separate part of the line.

Q: How many layers of film does the load get?
A: The layer count is determined by your load details and wrap program, and is confirmed during the sizing step.

Q: What electrical supply does it need?
A: Electrical supply (voltage, phase and frequency) is engineered to a customer’s site standards; confirm on site with the order.

Next step: RFQ checklist

Email info@fhopepack.com with your pallet size, load height and weight range.

Add a layout drawing of the infeed and outfeed area.

Receive a proposal with ring travel, conveyor sections and wrap program for your loads.

Book a site survey if you want the infeed and outfeed layout checked before the build.

Related reading

Efficient Packaging orbital wrapping machine 2024

Horizontal orbital stretch wrapper for pallet strapping and wrapping

Horizontal Orbital Stretch Wrapping Machine: Ring Wrap on a Conveyor

FHOPE packing machinery product lines

Sources and standards

ISO 12100:2010 Safety of machinery, general principles for design and risk assessment

EN 415-10:2014 Safety of packaging machines, general requirements

EN ISO 13849-1:2023 Safety of machinery, safety-related parts of control systems

The standards that apply depend on the destination market.
