The wrapping ring above the coil comes down and starts to wrap.

The rollers under the coil turn it while the ring lays film through the eye, and the operator steps back to watch from the side. Film builds up over most of the coil. The operator later bends to check a lower part and returns to the cabinet. On our machines, parts are checked only with the machine stopped.

How the pipe coil wrapper works

Step

What happens

Load

The pipe coil is set on the support rollers

Start

The operator starts the cycle at the cabinet

Wrap

The ring passes film through the eye while the rollers turn the coil

Finish

The film is cut and the tail fixed

Unload

The wrapped coil is lifted off

The ring and the rollers work together, so each pass lands beside the last.

Film laid per coil

Each pass lays one loop of film round the coil wall. Keep hands off the coil once the cycle starts, and adjust or check parts only with the machine stopped.

The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method and EN 415-10 sets general requirements for packaging machines.

Selection checklist for a pipe coil wrapping machine

Pipe OD and material.

Coil OD, ID and width.

Coils per hour.

Film type and overlap.

Manual or conveyor loading.

Floor space and power supply.

Engineering FAQ

Q: How does the film cover the inside of the coil?
A: The ring passes film through the eye on every pass.

Q: How much film does a coil take?
A: About 63 m laid on a 1,000 mm OD, 600 mm ID, 300 mm wide coil in our example.

Q: Is that the film drawn from the roll?
A: No. Pre-stretch means the roll pays out less than is laid.

Q: Who starts the cycle?
A: The operator, at the control cabinet.

Q: Should the operator touch the coil during wrapping?
A: No. Steady it before the start, then keep hands off until it stops.

Next step

We plan your pipe coil wrapping machine in three steps:

Submit your layout drawing with pipe and coil sizes and output to info@fhopepack.com.

Receive a proposal within 48 hours, with the ring size and film plan.

Book a site survey to check the loading method and floor space.

Related reading

Pipe packing machines

Video: HDPE pipe coil and hose wrapping machine

Video: hose stretch wrapping machine for pipe coil packing

Sources

Machine content: FHOPE engineering team, 2026-10-04

Film example: our worked example, illustrative values

Machine in action: our video on YouTube

Standards scope: ISO 12100:2010, EN 415-10:2014

Last reviewed: 2026-10-04

Executive summary Plastic pipe coils are wrapped through the eye so the film covers the inside, the outside and both faces.
