The result is a load closed on five sides against dust, rain and dripping water. It handles loads up to 1,800 kg, at a minimum of 24 loads an hour. A worked example sizes the top sheet and the film for a standard pallet.

Table of Contents

Why a pallet wrapper needs a top sheet

How the B300 covers and wraps a load

B300 specifications

Worked example: top sheet size and film use

Setting the top winds to hold the sheet

Selection checklist: what to send us

Safety and EN 415-6

Engineering FAQ

Next step

Related reading

Sources

Why a pallet wrapper needs a top sheet

Spiral stretch wrap covers the four sides of a load, but the top stays open. Dust settles on it in the warehouse. Rain or condensate drips onto it in open yards and reefer trucks. For beverage, frozen food and bagged goods, an open top means dirty or wet product at delivery.

A top sheet closes that gap. The sheet drapes over the top edges, and the stretch wrap pins the hanging edges to the sides. The load is then closed on every face except the pallet base.

How the B300 covers and wraps a load

Infeed. A forklift places the pallet on the infeed conveyor. The motorised conveyor carries it to the wrapping position.

Top sheet. With the pallet at the wrapping position, an overhead top-sheet beam lowers over the load and drapes a sheet of PE film or foam across the top. On conveyor-fed versions we can instead lay the sheet as the pallet travels in.

Stretch wrap. Once the sheet is in place, the turntable rotates and the film carriage travels up and down the column. Pre-stretched LLDPE film wraps the sides, with separate counts for bottom, middle and top winds.

Cut and wipe. The mechanical hand clamps the film with scissor-like gripper bars and cuts it with a heated wire. A soft brush wipes the tail onto the load. The clamp then holds the film for the next pallet.

Outfeed. The wrapped pallet leaves on the outfeed conveyor for forklift pick-up.

A PLC runs the whole cycle with no operator help. The infeed and outfeed conveyors are optional, so the B300 can also stand alone.

B300 specifications

Item

B300

Loads per hour

24 minimum

Maximum load weight

1,800 kg (turntable rated 2,000 kg)

Turntable

2,200 mm diameter, about 400 mm high, chain drive, ring gear bearing

Turntable speed

up to 12 rpm, adjustable, soft start and stop

Film

LLDPE, 0.025 mm thick, 500 mm wide, 76 mm core

Pre-stretch

250%, optional 100% to 300%

Carriage speed

2.9 m/min, set by inverter

Wind counts

bottom, middle and top, 0–99 each

Controls

PLC, HMI and separate buttons, photocell load height sensor

Power

AC 380 V, 3 phase, 50 Hz

Air supply

6–8 kgf/cm²; air consumption confirmed per order

Worked example: top sheet size and film use

Take a 1,200 × 1,000 mm pallet with a 1,500 mm load. These are illustrative customer figures.

Top sheet size. Let the sheet hang 200 mm down each side, an illustrative drop. Sheet size is then (1,200 + 2 × 200) × (1,000 + 2 × 200) = 1,600 × 1,400 mm. We set the drop on trials so the top winds catch it.

Spiral pitch. At the top turntable speed of 12 rpm and a carriage speed of 2.9 m/min, the carriage rises 2,900 ÷ 12 = 242 mm per turn. With 500 mm film that leaves an overlap of 1 − 242 ÷ 500 = 52%.

Film for one pass up. The carriage needs 1,500 ÷ 242 = 6.2 turns to climb the load. Each turn wraps a perimeter of 2 × (1.2 + 1.0) = 4.4 m. That puts about 27 m of stretched film on the load. At 250% pre-stretch, 1 m off the roll becomes 3.5 m on the load. So the pass uses about 27 ÷ 3.5 = 7.7 m of film from the roll, before top and bottom winds.

Setting the top winds to hold the sheet

The top winds do the work of holding the sheet. Each wind of 500 mm film covers the 200 mm drop and leaves 300 mm on the load sides below it. Two or three top winds usually lock the sheet; we confirm the count on your load. Extra top winds help on wet routes, where wind can lift a loose sheet corner.

Selection checklist: what to send us

Pallet size and the largest load footprint.

Load height range and heaviest load.

Loads per hour.

Top sheet material: PE film or foam.

Whether you need infeed and outfeed conveyors.

Product type, for example beverage, frozen food or bags.

Power and compressed air at site.

Safety and EN 415-6

We design pallet wrappers to EN 415-6 and assess risks to ISO 12100. The turning turntable, the moving carriage and the conveyors are the main hazards. For an inline B300 we enclose the wrap zone with interlocked fencing. Muting light curtains guard the conveyor openings, letting pallets pass while stopping the machine for a person.

A standalone B300 without fencing gets an area scanner or pressure mats round the turntable instead. A red mushroom-head emergency stop and a lockable electrical disconnect come as standard.

Engineering FAQ

Q: Does the top sheet slow the cycle?
A: When the beam places the sheet at the wrapping position, its stroke adds to the cycle. Laying the sheet on the infeed instead overlaps it with the conveyor move. We size the cycle on your loads per hour.

Q: Can it use foam instead of film for the top?
A: Yes. The covering unit takes PE film or plastic foam.

Q: What if my loads are lighter than the turntable rating?
A: That is fine. The B300 is rated for loads up to 1,800 kg.

Q: Which safety standards apply?
A: ISO 12100 for the risk assessment and EN 415-6 for pallet wrapping machines, in CE markets.

Next step

Email your pallet sizes, load heights and loads per hour to info@fhopepack.com.

We reply within 24 hours with a proposal naming the model and options.

We send a layout drawing with conveyors and guarding.

Related reading

B300 automatic pallet wrapping machine

B100 automatic pallet wrapping machine

Pallet wrapping machinery for online packing with top sheet covering

How the PE sheet dispenser works for automatic pallet covering

Inline turntable pallet wrapper

Automatic rotary arm pallet wrapping machine with top sheet covering

Sources

Specifications: FHOPE B300 automatic pallet wrapping machine product page

Machine video: pallet wrapper with top sheet dispenser on YouTube

Sheet size and film use: our worked example, illustrative pallet figures

Standards: EN 415-6 (pallet wrapping machines); ISO 12100:2010

Last reviewed: 2026-10-17

Executive summary Our B300 automatic pallet wrapper lays a sheet of PE film or foam over the top of the load, then stretch wraps the sides so the wrap locks the sheet’s edges down.
