Loose panels rub each other in transit and shed fine glass dust. Straps alone concentrate their force on the panel edges and cut into them. A shrink pack resolves all three at once:

Even compressive restraint. As the film cools after the tunnel, shrink tension clamps the whole stack on all sides, so the panels travel as one closed block with no internal rubbing.

Edge and corner guarding. The film barrier takes the abrasion instead of the fragile perimeter, and no strap ever touches an edge.

Weather and dust sealing. The closed envelope keeps out rain and site dust, and the flat film surface carries printed branding and product data.

How the shrink packing line works

Stack and feed: panels are stacked on the roller conveyor; sensors detect the stack and fix its position for the cycle.

Cover: film from upper and lower rolls meets in front of the stack and covers it as it moves through, top and bottom.

Seal: the sealing unit presses down and closes the film around the stack; the cutter separates the front and back seams.

Shrink: the stack passes through the tunnel, where high-velocity hot air circulation shrinks the film tight to the stack contour.

Outfeed: finished packs leave on rollers for palletising.

PLC and HMI control the line; sensors trigger the sealing, the PLC sets sealing temperature, and the front feed speed is adjusted so the conveyor indexes in step with the seal cycle — a pack every 20 to 30 seconds.

Line and film data

Item

FHOPE panel shrink packing machine

Control

PLC and HMI

Feed modes

auto and manual

Film

PE, POF or PVC with vent holes

Recommended film thickness

80–150 μm; 200 μm for heavier protection (PE film; thickness for POF or PVC set per film type)

Conveyor speed

about 4–9 m/min

Working table height

about 800 mm

Sealing width

adjustable

Tunnel

high-speed hot air circulation

Foam glass stack length, width and height ranges are confirmed at quote; the door shrink model on the same platform packs objects 1,000–4,000 mm long. The sealing bar and the hot tunnel are the main hazards; guards and safety doors cover them, and tunnel access is interlocked so heating elements are unreachable during operation.

Engineering FAQ

Q: Will heat damage foam glass?
A: No. Foam glass is non-combustible, and the tunnel only heats the film surface to shrink it; the panels themselves stay at ambient temperature.

Q: Why vented film?
A: Vent holes let air escape as the film collapses, so it shrinks flat around the stack without ballooning.

Q: Can the film be printed?
A: Yes. Printed film carries brand and product data, and the flat tensioned surface after shrinking keeps the print readable.

Q: Can the same line pack other insulation boards?
A: Yes. Sealing width, sealing height and feed speed adjust per product, and on the companion door shrink platform optical detection adapts the cycle to the product size automatically [manufacturer rating].

Next step

Send your panel and stack sizes, output and storage conditions to info@fhopepack.com.

We choose the packing method and lay out the line.

We reply within 24 hours with a proposal and quotation.

Related reading

Automatic door shrinking machine (product)

Fibre panel packing machine (video)

Automatic panel sealing and shrinking machine (video)

Door and panel shrink packaging machine (video)

Sources

FHOPE product page: automatic door shrinking machine

Door shrink wrap machine | Door shrinking machinery (product page)

FHOPE project correspondence on foam and insulation panel packing

EN ISO 12100:2010; EN 415-10; EN 60204-1

Last reviewed: 2026-10-20

Executive summary Foam glass insulation panels are light and rigid, but their porous edges and corners chip if the stack shifts or rubs in transit.
