A black column with a safety warning sign stands at the infeed side.

The blue wrapping head rotates round the load and travels up and down, laying stretch film round the cartons. When the wrap is done the head rises clear and the wrapped pallet rides on out of the station along the conveyor. A white electrical cabinet with a red button stands at the end of the line. This clip shows the wrapping station of the line, not a pallet changer.

How a pallet is wrapped inline

Times are read from the video timestamps.

Step

What happens

Video time

Infeed

The pallet rides into the station on the roller conveyor

about 0–2 s

Wrap

The head rotates round the load and travels up and down

about 2–8 s

Head clear

The head rises clear of the load

about 8–14 s

Outfeed

The wrapped pallet rides out along the conveyor

about 14–28 s

These times show the order of steps in the clip, not a rated cycle time; the wrap cycle for your film plan and turn count is confirmed in the proposal.

Because the head moves round the load, the pallet does not turn, so tall or light carton stacks are not thrown off balance.

Film per pallet

Illustrative example with customer-side inputs:

Item

Value

Load footprint (illustrative)

1,200 × 1,000 mm

Perimeter, 2 × (1,200 + 1,000)

4,400 mm

Turns (illustrative)

14

Film laid, 14 × 4.4 m

61.6 m

Pallets per shift (illustrative)

200

Film laid per shift, 200 × 61.6 m

12,320 m

That is film laid on the loads; pre-stretch means the roll pays out less, and we work the roll count from your film and pre-stretch setting.

Controls and safety

The wrapping head moves round the load and the conveyor moves pallets in and out on its own. Keep people out of the wrapping station while it runs, and go in only when the line has stopped and the station is made safe. For pallet wrapping machines, EN 415-6 adds the specific safety requirements.

The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method and EN 415-10 sets general requirements for packaging machines.

Selection checklist for an inline pallet stretch wrapper

Pallet size, load height and heaviest load.

Conveyor height and pallet direction through the station.

Film plan: turns, top and bottom wraps.

Pallets per shift.

Film start, cut and tail sealing.

Guarding and access round the station.

Engineering FAQ

Q: How much film does a pallet take?
A: Perimeter times turns: 4.4 m × 14 gives 61.6 m laid in our example.

Q: How much film per shift?
A: Film per pallet times pallets per shift: 200 × 61.6 m gives 12,320 m laid.

Q: Where do I look if I need to change pallets, not wrap them?
A: Our pallet inverter page covers pallet changing; it is linked under Related reading.

Q: Does the pallet turn while it is wrapped?
A: No. The pallet stays still on the conveyor while the head rotates round it, which keeps tall or light carton stacks balanced.

Q: Which safety standard applies?
A: For CE markets, EN 415-6 covers pallet wrapping machines.

Next step

We plan your inline pallet stretch wrapper in three steps:

Submit your layout drawing with pallet sizes, heights and weights to info@fhopepack.com.

Receive a proposal within 48 hours, with film plan and conveyor layout.

Book a site survey to check conveyor heights and pallets per shift.

Related reading

Automatic pallet wrapping machine

Pallet inverter and pallet changer

Video: fully automatic pallet wrapping machinery line

Sources

Machine content: FHOPE engineering team, 2026-10-04

Pallet wrapper safety: EN 415-6

Film example: our worked example, illustrative values

Machine in action: our video on YouTube

Standards scope: ISO 12100:2010, EN 415-10:2014

Last reviewed: 2026-10-04

Executive summary Carrying every pallet to a stand-alone wrapper by forklift adds a handling step and a queue at the end of the line.
