Our FCL-800 coils tube of 5–30 mm OD into coils up to 800 mm across at up to 80 m/min, and the FCL400 takes larger coils of 680–1,200 mm OD. Winding it by hand onto a frame is slow, the length varies, and loose turns tangle. A pipe winding machine does three jobs automatically. It measures the length, winds tight even layers on a former of the right ID and height, and holds the coil for tying so it keeps its shape when taken off.

Typical products are PE water and irrigation pipe, PEX and PE-RT heating pipe, PVC hose and small air or fuel tube.

How the coiling cycle works

Start. The tube end is clamped to the former, which sits between clamping plates set to the coil ID and height.

Wind. The former turns at line speed while the guide traverses, laying even layers. Servo drives match the winding to the extruder.

Count. The meter counter stops the coil at the set length and the tube is cut.

Tie and wrap. The coil is strapped while still held; options add film wrapping or shrink wrap.

Discharge. The clamps open and the coil leaves on the conveyor; the next coil starts.

A white control cabinet with PLC and HMI runs the cycle and reports error codes over IoT. The cut, tie and discharge time t_c adds to every coil on a single station, so the line needs either a second winding station or a buffer for the tube during changeover. Our coiling and strapping lines are built for up to 45 coils an hour. Exact coil OD depends on how tightly the layers pack and is checked on your pipe at the factory test.

After coiling: strapping, wrapping, shrinking

Coiled pipe is tied at several points so it cannot spring open. For retail or export, it can then be film wrapped through the eye or shrink wrapped. The hazards are the turning former, the traversing guide, the tube cutter and the strapping head. A mesh guard covers the winding area, and the former must be stopped before anyone reaches in.

Engineering FAQ

Q: Can the coiler keep up with my extruder?
A: FCL-800 coils at up to 80 m/min; tell us your line speed.

Q: How accurate is the coil length?
A: The meter counter sets each coil to the programmed length.

Q: What about larger coils?
A: The FCL400 takes coils of 300–500 mm ID and 680–1,200 mm OD.

Q: Can it wrap the coil too?
A: Yes, film wrapping and shrink wrap are options.

Next step

Send tube OD, coil length and sizes, and line speed to info@fhopepack.com.

We choose the coiler and packing options.

We reply within 24 hours with a proposal and quotation.

Related reading

Automatic pipe winding machine FCL-800 (product)

Automatic pipe winding and strapping machine

Automatic tube coiler and pipe coiling strapping machine

Automatic hose winding and wrapping machine

Double wall hose coiling and strapping machine

PVC hose packing machine

Sources

FHOPE product page: automatic pipe winding machine FCL-800

FHOPE engineering confirmation (FCL400 coil sizes) and project correspondence

Our pipe winding machine shown above

Sizing example: illustrative figures

Standards: EN 415-10; ISO 12100:2010

Last reviewed: 2026-10-19

Executive summary A pipe winding machine (pipe coiler) takes flexible PE, PEX or PVC tube from the extruder and winds it into a neat coil of a set length, ready to strap and wrap.
