Резюме

A support-arm coil upender receives steel coils one by one from a coil car, turns each load 90 degrees so the coil eye faces upward, and releases it to the next stage. When a line moves coils as a batch, the arms can gather a configured number of coils, rotate the group together, then lower below conveyor level so the finished group conveys out. This removes a manual re-hook and crane re-lift from the transfer. A reference video of a coil upender line accompanies this page.

What a Support-Arm Coil Upender Does in Your Line

Downstream operations — wrapping, strapping, stacking, and eye-up storage — need the coil eye (the inner diameter) facing upward. Somewhere between the coil car and the packing line that change of orientation must happen.

If the turn is left to an overhead crane and a sling, the line pays twice: in cycle time, and in edge damage from coils swinging against the hook. The support-arm upender takes over that exact step. It sits between the coil car and the next conveyor, accepts coils as they arrive, and hands them on in the orientation the next station needs.

The coil is set down once and picked up once, instead of being re-hooked and re-slung between every stage.

The Working Cycle: Receive, Rotate, Release

The cycle runs in three moves.

  • Получить. The coil car delivers a coil with its eye horizontal. The support arms extend, take the coil onto their ends, one coil at a time, and lift it clear of the car into the machine’s centre position.
  • Поворот. Once the load is set, the arms turn the coil about a horizontal axis through 90 degrees. The eye that arrived facing sideways now faces upward.
  • Релиз. The arms lower so their ends sit below the conveyor line level. The coil, or the gathered group, moves out to the next stage, and the arms return for the next cycle.

A reference video of a coil upender line shows this cycle with a single wrapped coil: received from the coil car, turned eye-up and lowered onto the outfeed. Batch gathering follows the same three moves, with the count set per project.

Single Coils or Gathered Batches

Both modes are real options. The right one depends on your flow.

режим Когда это подходит Типичное преимущество
Одинарная катушка Coil sizes vary, or the next station takes one at a time Tight feedback between upender and next machine
Партия Coils are similar and handoffs are the bottleneck One rotation, one release for the group

Choose single-coil handling when coil dimensions vary widely, when the downstream station processes one coil at a time, or when you want the tightest feedback between the upender and the next machine.

Choose batch gathering when your coils are broadly similar in size and the bottleneck is the number of handoffs rather than the turning itself. The arms receive a configured number of coils, turn the group 90 degrees together, and lower to release the batch in a single motion. The gathering count is set per project from coil width, weight, and outfeed layout. Send us your layout and coil schedule and we will confirm which mode fits.

Mechanical or Hydraulic Drive: How to Choose

The upender family is built in both mechanical and hydraulic versions. The choice follows from the load and the environment.

  • Механический suits moderate loads and a clean, oil-free packaging area. The build is simpler.
  • Гидравлический suits heavier maximum loading or a heavier gathered batch, with smoother rotation under full load.

Confirm the drive against your heaviest case, not the average coil. The same family also pairs with a тележка для переноса катушек, so the two stations can be specified together.

Sizing and Project Configuration

Capacity is governed by maximum loading. This support-arm design handles an overall maximum loading of 8 t for the loaded batch, with the stack height and coil width confirmed against your actual coils. There is no fixed published gathering count: the number of coils per batch depends on coil width, weight, and how the outfeed conveyor is laid out.

Send the following and we will return a configuration:

  • Coil width and diameter range.
  • Heaviest coil and heaviest batch to turn.
  • Coil car and outfeed conveyor heights.
  • A simple line layout.
Параметр Значение Смысл
Максимальная загрузка 8 т overall capacity of the loaded batch
Внутренний диаметр рулона 508 / 610 мм common bore sizes the arms accept
Ширина катушки 30 к 600 мм coil width range on the support arms
Стек высоту 600 мм height of the gathered group
Вращение 90 степень arms turn the load eye-up
Turn return за проект cycle timing set by batch
Высота выхода за проект release below conveyor line
Базовый поддон вариант pallet placed under the stack before the turn, so the load leaves on the pallet
Arm contact изогнутый support arms arc to match the coil for even support

The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method, and EN 415-10 covers the general safety requirements of packaging machines. These two standards form the basis of the guarding and control scheme; guarding, interlocks and lockout points are confirmed at the engineering review. Values above are confirmed against your heaviest case at RFQ.

Часто задаваемые вопросы по инженерным вопросам

Q: Where does the upender sit in the line? A: Between the coil car and the next conveyor. It receives coils as they arrive and hands them on in the orientation the next station needs.

Q: How many coils can it gather before turning? A: There is no fixed published count. The gathering quantity is configured per project from coil dimensions, weights, and outfeed arrangement. We size the arms to your batch target.

Q: Which should I choose, mechanical or hydraulic? A: For moderate loads and a clean area, mechanical is the simpler build. For heavier loading or a heavier batch, hydraulic gives smoother rotation. The choice is confirmed against the heaviest case.

Q: What happens after the turn? A: The support arms lower until their ends sit below the conveyor line level, so the coil or the gathered group conveys out with no second lift.

Q: What should a buyer check on safety? A: The build follows ISO 12100 for the risk assessment and EN 415-10 for packaging-machine safety (see Sizing); confirm guarding, interlocks and lockout points with the builder.
