The strapping station operates in a continuous, automated single-station sequence:
- Stack infeed and positioning: The incoming board bundle advances on the powered roller conveyor and is indexed under the structural strap arch, aligned against reference side guides.
- Head stroke down: The floating strapping head moves downward until its contact face registers against the top surface of the bundle stack.
- Strap cycling: The feed mechanism drives the strapping band around the arch track, retracts it onto the bundle perimeter, applies controlled tension, joins the strap via thermal or friction seal, and severs the band with an integrated shear blade.
- Head retract: The head returns to its elevated home position clear of the transport aperture.
- Conveyor index: The conveyor advances the stack forward by one programmed strap pitch. Steps 2 through 4 repeat for each subsequent strap location until the bundle recipe is satisfied.
- Transferência de saída: The finished bundle is released downstream to the next handling or packaging operation.
During automatic operation, personnel remain strictly outside the machine safety enclosure. Stack adjustments, coil changes, or maintenance are performed exclusively with the station brought to a complete stop, electrically and pneumatically isolated, and locked out under verified safety procedures.
An automatic board strapping machine functions as an inline station designed to tension, seal, and cut PET or PP straps around stacked boards directly on the material handling line.
On our board packaging lines, the strapping section is engineered for rigid panels using PET or PP strapping belts. It is built online: the stack arrives on the conveyor, is strapped, and leaves on the same conveyor. Around it the line can carry a vacuum lifter, a stacker, a estação de embrulho or shrinking station and a palletiser. A similar online layout for long goods is shown in our linha de amarração de tubos e cintas de PP.
The station must match the conveyor pass-line height on both sides and release each bundle on time. We size the arch, head, strap and conveyor with the rest of the line.
Fita PET ou PP: como escolhemos?
Both strap materials are supported in our standard board packaging machines. Selecting between them is a physical engineering decision dictated by stack mass, holding duration, and board edge vulnerability, rather than raw material cost:
| Propriedade da alça | Alça PET | Alça de PP | Efeito prático em uma pilha de tabuleiro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alongamento sob carga | Baixo | Alto | PP relaxes more under sustained load; requires higher initial setting tension |
| A tensão é mantida durante o armazenamento. | Melhor | Abaixe | PET maintains stack compression over multi-month storage without slackening |
| PP typically requires solid corner protectors on hard, sharp board edges |
Use PET for heavy bundles, long storage (months) or sharp edges, and PP for light stacks with protected edges and short storage. In both cases the board edge limits the tension: working tension stays below the edge crush resistance, and corner protection is added where needed.
The strap loop length corresponds to the perimeter of the cross-section; it is governed exclusively by bundle width and height, independent of overall board length:
loop length per strap = 2 × (bundle width + bundle height)
strap length per bundle = (loop length + allowance) × number of straps
The allowance factor accounts for the strap seal overlap, feeding clearances, arch track sweep, and external corner protector radii.
Worked example for an illustrative bundle measuring 1,200 mm wide by 600 mm high:
| item | Valor |
|---|---|
| Comprimento da alça por tira, 2 × (1,200 + 600) | 3,600 mm |
| Número de alças | 2 |
| Allowance per strap (joint overlap and corner protection) | 300 mm |
| Comprimento da fita por pacote: 2 × 3,600 + 2 × 300 | 7,800 mm |
| Com uma margem de encomenda de 20%, 7,800 mm × 1.2 | aproximadamente 9.4 m por feixe |
Strap spacing governs bundle structural stability during transit. As a fundamental baseline:
- Place the outer two straps near each end of the bundle, inset sufficiently to avoid corner break-out and to stay clear of designated forklift fork pockets.
- Space intermediate straps evenly so that no unsupported span exceeds the bundle height. For example, a heavy bundle 2,400 mm long and 600 mm high is configured with five strap positions.
A cabeça de cintagem e a esteira transportadora
The strapping head is mounted on a rigid overhead arch structure spanning the powered roller conveyor. The conveyor acts as an active positioning axis, indexing the stack to each discrete strapping location.
Three fundamental parameters are configured and stored per product recipe:
- Posições das alças: Programmed through the operator interface as an encoder-indexed positional recipe, allowing automated changeovers across board formats without physical limit switch adjustments.
- Head stroke limits: The overhead vertical axis lowers the head to the board face to minimise free-air loop tensioning. Soft-touch sensing ensures the head applies necessary sealing contact without mechanically crushing or surface-marking the top board.
- Conveyor indexing and lateral squaring: The conveyor advances one strap pitch per index cycle. Integrated adjustable side guides and an end reference stop centre and square the bundle before each cycle, eliminating angular strap drift—the predominant cause of edge seal failures.
Pacote takt e balanceamento de linha
System cycle time must synchronize with upstream manufacturing and downstream discharge. For an illustrative target output of 40 bundles per hour, a strapped bundle must clear the station every 90 s:
| item | Valor |
|---|---|
| Objetivo de saída (ilustrativo) | 40 pacotes por hora |
| Táxi, 3,600 ÷ 40 | 90 segundos por pacote |
| Número de tiras por pacote (exemplo) | 2 |
| Tempo estimado por alça: 90 ÷ 2 | 45 s |
| Condição operacional | Head stroke, strap feed, tension/weld/cut, conveyor index, and transfer must fit inside budget |
The 45 s budget covers head stroke, strap feed, tension, seal, cut and conveyor index. If the sum exceeds the takt, we add a second head, overlap the index with the strap cycle on a longer conveyor, or use fewer straps of a stronger strap.

Safety integration aligns with destination market regulations. For European CE conformity, risk assessments comply with ISO 12100:2010, while machine-specific guarding, electrical interlocks, and hazard mitigation meet PT 415-10: 2014 standards for packaging and strapping machinery.
Perguntas frequentes sobre engenharia
Q: Should I specify PET or PP strapping for our board bundles? A: Select PET strap when bundles exceed standard industrial weights, undergo flat-bed road transport, or require multi-month outdoor/warehouse storage, as PET retains set tension without significant creep. Specify PP for light-duty, short-haul board packs where edge loading is low. Based on our project engineering data across rigid board and steel panel packaging lines, heavy stacks consistently achieve superior joint stability using high-tensile PET [manufacturer rating]. Specific strap specifications are engineered per project requirements.
Q: Can this strapping station integrate inline with an orbital or horizontal wrapping machine? A: Yes. In automated board packaging lines, the strapping station routinely links downstream of the stacking cell and immediately upstream of a protective stretch wrapping or shrink station to secure bundle geometry before moisture wrapping.
Q: Why is precise mechanical centring essential prior to strap application? A: If a board stack is skewed or offset relative to the arch centerline, the strap feeds unevenly across the corner radii, resulting in concentrated edge tension that can split boards or cause the strap to peel off the bundle edge during transport. Adjustable conveyor side guides eliminate this risk.
