How the side-press changer works

Move the machine. The operator drives the changer up to the loaded pallet. It does not need to turn the pallet first.
Clamp the load. Two side platforms close on the load from the control panel.
Set the pressure. The operator adjusts the clamp pressure, read on a gauge on the machine, so it holds the load without damaging it.
Lift and transfer. The changer lifts the load off the old pallet and carries it to the new pallet.
Set down. The load goes down on the new pallet and the clamps open.

In our video, the clamp closes on the sides of a paper roll, lifts it and moves it so the old pallet can be swapped for a new one.

The wide base matters. With 1,320 mm between the legs and a 1,200 mm pallet, there is 120 mm of clearance, or 60 mm a side, so the legs pass outside the pallet. The side platforms also adjust down to a minimum height of 320 mm.

Clamp-and-carry or clamp-and-turn

We build two mobile clamp designs. The side-press type in the video clamps from the sides and carries the load to a new pallet. The Plus A type clamps between forks and turns the load 180 degrees, which suits loads that must be inverted.

For a paper roll that stays upright, clamp-and-carry is enough. We choose the turning type when the pallet must come off the bottom by inverting the load.

Clamp pressure is adjustable and shown on a gauge, so the operator can hold a paper roll firmly without crushing it. The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method.
