How the rod wrapper works
Our horizontal orbital wrapper carries a rod bundle on support rollers on each side of the ring, and on the rod wrapper a pneumatic movement positions the bundle in the wrapping zone. In our video, an operator guides a long round bundle of aluminum rods through the ring. As the ring turns, it lays stretch film around the bundle, and the film overlaps as the bundle moves forward, so the rods are held together and sealed.
The film keeps the rods from shifting against each other and protects the surface in transport. The wrapper can work online with other equipment or offline as a standalone station.

The two windows overlap between 300 and 500 mm OD. Below 300 mm, or for bundles longer than 8,000 mm, the rod wrapper fits. Above 500 mm, the aluminum profile wrapper fits. Illustrative example: a 6,000 mm bundle of aluminum rods with 250 mm OD needs the rod wrapper. A 6,000 mm bundle with 800 mm OD needs the aluminum profile wrapper.
Time per bundle
The wrapping speed is how fast the bundle travels through the ring while it is wrapped. Time per bundle = bundle length ÷ wrapping speed:
- 6,000 mm bundle at 2 m/min: 6 ÷ 2 = 3 min.
- 6,000 mm bundle at 12 m/min: 6 ÷ 12 = 0.5 min, or 30 s.
This is travel time only. Extra wraps at the bundle ends, and film clamping and cutting, add to each cycle. A higher overlap also needs a slower wrapping speed at the same ring speed, because the bundle must advance less per ring turn. So we time the full cycle on a trial bundle, then add loading and unloading to get bundles per hour.
Film and material handling
Both machines accept PE film, stretch film, knit belt and VCI paper. VCI paper adds corrosion protection inside the wrap.

On the aluminum profile wrapper, a series of rollers feeds and holds the profiles. The film keeps profiles locked together and reduces shifting and damage.

Inverters set the wrapping and conveying speed. The standards that apply depend on the destination market. For CE markets, ISO 12100 sets the risk-assessment method and EN 415-10 sets general requirements for packaging machines.
