La macchina avvolgitrice è costituita da una struttura in acciaio nero con due colonne e una trave superiore, che sorregge un braccio rotante giallo con il carrello porta-pellicola all'estremità. Una recinzione in rete metallica gialla circonda la cella. Il carico è una pila di cartoni su un pallet di legno.
1. **0 to about 4 s.** The arm is parked above the stack and nothing moves.
2. **About 6 to 10 s.** The arm starts to swing round and the film carriage moves down toward the side of the stack. A person in a blue vest appears at the right-hand column.
3. **About 12 to 22 s.** The arm carries on round the stack, laying film onto the sides while the person stands by the right-hand column.
4. **About 24 to 28 s.** The arm returns to its parked position and the cell is at rest.
5. **About 30 to 38 s.** The cell is at rest with the arm parked over the pallet.
6. **About 40 to 46 s.** A second wrap starts: the arm swings round and the film covers most of the sides.
7. **About 48 to 50 s.** The arm swings back and rises clear. A person enters through the opened gate in the fence on the right while the arm is still moving.

Controllo del tempo
La R100 è progettata per 35 pallet all'ora, con un ciclo di 3,600 ÷ 35, ovvero circa 103 secondi per pallet. A una velocità di 10-14 giri al minuto, i 10-18 secondi di movimento del braccio sulla pinza corrispondono a pochi giri, un avvolgimento breve. Un programma completo (parte inferiore, centrale e superiore) su un carico di 2,300 mm richiede più tempo, lasciando comunque del tempo libero all'interno del ciclo.
Il transpallet o il carrello elevatore sfrutta quel tempo libero per portare il pallet all'interno, applicare la pellicola e prelevarlo. Per una maggiore produttività, il collo di bottiglia è rappresentato dalla movimentazione dei pallet, non dal braccio, quindi il passo successivo è l'utilizzo di un nastro trasportatore.

Controlli e sicurezza
La zona di pericolo è costituita dal movimento del braccio e del carrello porta-pellicola, e la recinzione serve a tenervi fuori. La persona che entra attraverso il cancello aperto tra i 48 e i 50 secondi, mentre il braccio è ancora in movimento, rappresenta la minaccia da evitare. Fermare, isolare e bloccare l'avvolgitrice prima che chiunque entri nella recinzione per regolare il carico, applicare la pellicola o lavorare sul braccio. Il dispositivo anticollisione sul braccio è l'ultima linea di difesa, non sostituisce la recinzione e il blocco.
