Sintesi
A robot pallet wrapper is a self-propelled wrapping machine. The load stays where it stands, and the machine drives around it while the film carriage runs up and down its mast. It needs no turntable, no fixed position and no forklift move, so it suits heavy, oversized or irregular loads and warehouses with many wrapping spots. Our equivalent solution is configured per load, with speeds and options confirmed at quote.
The red and black machine carries a roll of LLDPE stretch film on its carriage and a control panel with a touch screen, start and stop buttons. The pallet load stands still on the floor while the machine moves around it on small wheels, laying the film in a spiral over the load faces. At the end of the cycle the film is cut and the machine stops, ready for the next load.

Robot wrapper or turntable wrapper?
| La Domanda | Robot wrapper | Involucro per giradischi |
|---|---|---|
| Does the load move? | no, it stays in place | yes, it turns on the table |
| Dimensione di carico | set by the floor space around it | set by the turntable diameter |
| peso del carico | not limited by a table | limited by the turntable rating |
| Where it wraps | anywhere on a flat floor | at one fixed station |
| Forklift moves | none to the wrapper | uno dentro, uno fuori |
| Uscita | lower, one load at a time by hand | higher, can run in a line |
Regola. Choose the robot wrapper when loads are too big, too heavy or too unstable to turn, or when they are wrapped in many places. Choose a turntable wrapper for steady, standard pallets at a fixed station.
How a robot wrapper follows the load
- The operator places the machine at a corner of the load and ties the film tail to the pallet.
- The machine drives around the load at a steady distance from the load faces. Robot wrappers usually steer with a feeler (tracer) wheel that runs against the load; the guidance on our equivalent solution is confirmed at quote.
- The film carriage starts at the pallet base to lock the load to the pallet, then climbs the mast while the machine circles, with an optional return down. Bottom, middle and top turns are set on the panel.
- At the end of the cycle the machine stops, the film is cut and the operator moves it to the next load.
Because the machine follows the load outline, the same machine wraps a 1,200 × 1,200 mm pallet and a long crate.
Film use and travel distance
Two lengths matter: the film laid on the load and the distance the machine drives.
Film on the load = turns × load perimeter. Driven path = turns × path perimeter.
| Ingombro di carico | Perimetro di carico | Film for 12 turns | Path about 0.5 m outside | Driven for 12 turns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,200 × 1,000 mm | 2 × (1.2 + 1.0) = 4.4 m | 12 × 4.4 = 53 mt | 2 × (2.2 + 2.0) = 8.4 m | 12 × 8.4 = 101 mt |
| 2,400 × 1,200 mm | 2 × (2.4 + 1.2) = 7.2 m | 12 × 7.2 = 86 mt | confirmed on site | confirmed on site |
The film on the load is stretched film. The film taken from the roll is shorter: film from the roll = film on the load ÷ (1 + pre-stretch). At an illustrative 200% pre-stretch, 53 ÷ 3 = 18 m per load. The pre-stretch ratio is confirmed at quote.
Risultato. The machine drives about twice the film length for a standard pallet. Cycle time = driven path ÷ travel speed. Travel speed and turns per load are confirmed at quote, so ask for the cycle time on your largest load.
Floor, battery and site checks
| Vedi | Perché è importante |
|---|---|
| Flat, clean floor around the load | the wheels and steering need a smooth path |
| Free space on all sides | the machine must pass every face without hitting racks or walls |
| Battery charge per shift | the number of loads per charge is confirmed at quote |
| Punto di ricarica | the machine is parked and charged between shifts |
| Altezza di carico | the mast must reach the top of the tallest load |
Lista di controllo per la selezione
- Smallest and largest load size, including height.
- Load weight and stability.
- Loads per shift.
- Floor condition and space around each load.
- Film type and number of turns.
- Where the machine is parked and charged.
Sicurezza: EN 415-6 e ISO 12100
Pallet wrapping machines are covered by EN 415-6, with the risk assessment to ISO 12100:2010. With a robot wrapper the hazard moves with the machine, so there is no fence. A mobile wrapper therefore needs a safety bumper or sensitive edge that stops it on contact, as well as the emergency stop on the panel. The operator keeps the area clear and the floor around the wrapping spot is marked. Guarding and CE documents are agreed per project.
FAQ di ingegneria
Q: Can it wrap loads that do not fit a turntable? A: Yes. The machine drives around the load, so length, width and weight are not limited by a table.
Q: Does it need to be fixed to the floor? A: No. It moves on wheels and can wrap wherever there is a flat floor and space around the load.
Q: How fast is it? A: Cycle time is the driven path divided by the travel speed. The travel speed is confirmed at quote.
Q: What is the battery life? A: Loads per charge depend on load size and turns, and are confirmed at quote.
Q: Can it wrap round or odd-shaped loads? A: Yes. It follows the load outline, which is why it is chosen for loads of different sizes and shapes.
