> A copper strip coil wrapping machine wraps film, paper or woven belt through the eye and around the rim of a slit copper coil. The coil lies flat on a roller conveyor while an upright ring passes through its centre. Our FPC-300 takes coils of 10–1,000 kg and 700–1,200 mm OD, and our smaller FPC-200 takes coils of 5–500 kg. Why copper strip coils need eye-through wrapping
Slit copper strip tarnishes quickly when air and moisture reach it, and its soft edges dent easily. Wrapping only the outside of the coil leaves the eye and both side faces open. Wrapping through the eye covers the bore, both faces and the outside in one continuous layer, so the whole coil is sealed and the edges are padded.
Come funziona l'involucro
The coil arrives lying flat, eye up, on a powered roller conveyor. It stops at the wrapping station, and four upright guide rollers close in around its outside. Those rollers turn the coil slowly on the spot. An upright wrapping ring passes through the coil eye, and its carriage lays the material over the top face, through the bore and under the bottom face. As the coil turns, the wraps step round the full circumference.
When the coil is covered, the guide rollers open and the conveyor carries it out, so no one lifts it. The operator watches from the console beside the conveyor, and a yellow guard fence closes off the side of the machine.
Horizontal or vertical wrapping for copper strip
We build three forms of coil wrapper for strip:
1. **Automatic horizontal wrapper**, with loading and unloading by conveyor, so it can join an automatic packing line.
2. **Semi-automatic horizontal wrapper**, loaded and unloaded by hand or hoist.
3. **Vertical wrapper**, with the coil lying flat, loaded at table height or at floor level.
For copper strip, we recommend the horizontal wrapper, the type shown here. The coil lies flat, so its whole bottom face is supported, and strip as narrow as 8 mm can be wrapped without bending. Some copper strip is soft enough to deform when it is wrapped standing on edge, which is the weakness of vertical wrapping.

Illustrative coil: OD 700 mm, ID 500 mm, width 50 mm, on the FPC-300 with 100 mm film at 50% overlap.

**Result.** The coil takes about 38 wraps and 11.3 m of film. At a roller speed of 3 m/min it turns once in about 44 s, inside the FPC-300 range of 35–50 s, and the ring needs about 52 r/min, inside 5–100 r/min. At the top roller speed of 4 m/min the turn would take about 33 s, under the 35 s floor of the FPC-300, so the roller speed is set lower for this coil.

We design the wrapper to EN 415-10 and assess its risks to ISO 12100. The main hazards are the rotating ring, the closing guide rollers and the moving conveyor. The side of the machine is fenced, the operator stands at the console, and the ring stops when the cycle stop is pressed.
