An operator steadies a large pink pipe coil beside our blue and yellow wrapping machine, with one hand on the control cabinet. The wrapping ring above the coil comes down and starts to wrap.

The rollers under the coil turn it while the ring lays film through the eye, and the operator steps back to watch from the side. Film builds up over most of the coil. The operator later bends to check a lower part and returns to the cabinet. On our machines, parts are checked only with the machine stopped.

Film laid per coil

Each pass lays one loop of film round the coil wall. Illustrative example:

The ring turns through the coil eye and the rollers turn the coil. Keep hands off the coil once the cycle starts, and adjust or check parts only with the machine stopped.

Q: Who starts the cycle? A: The operator, at the control cabinet.

Q: Should the operator touch the coil during wrapping? A: No. Steady it before the start, then keep hands off until it stops.
