AUTO PALETTE UMREIFMASCHINE VERPACKUNGSMASCHINE

Executive summary

An automatic pallet strapping machine stops each pallet on the roller conveyor and passes vertical straps over and under the load, tensions them and friction-welds the joint. Most of the result is decided before the machine runs: how many straps, where they sit, and whether the corners need edge protectors. Our equivalent solution takes loads up to 1,300 mm wide and 1,800 mm high, with tension from 50 to 5,000 N and about 15 s per strap. Below we plan the straps, choose edge protection and work out the strap used per shift.

A green plastic pallet stacked with brown boards rolls in on a silver roller conveyor and stops in the middle of a light grey strapping frame. A large reel of yellow-green strap sits on top of the machine, and the control cabinet with a blue screen and green, red and yellow lamps stands on the left. Two straps come down on the sides of the stack while side guides square the load before the straps are drawn tight.

Planning the straps

A strap holds a load only where it presses on it. Boards, panels and cartons on a plastic pallet can slide on the deck and on each other, so the straps must tie the top layer, the stack and the pallet together. The plan answers three questions: how many straps along the pallet, how tight, and how the top corners are protected from the strap cutting in. The machine then repeats that plan on every pallet.

Strap count and positions

The pallet moves through the frame and stops at each strap position, so the count and spacing are set on the touch screen per product. A practical rule: one strap close to each end of the load, and more in between so that no part of the top is far from a strap.

Load length (example) Uhrenarmbänder Positions from the leading edge (example)
1,000mm 2 150 und 850 mm
1,200mm 3 150, 600 und 1,050 mm
1,200 mm, loose boards 4 150, 450, 750 und 1,050 mm

Each extra strap adds about 15 s to the cycle, so the count is a balance between load security and pallets per hour.

Edge protectors and tension

At high tension a strap cuts into the top edge of boards or cartons. The optional edge protectors are laid under the strap at the corners, in 50, 120 or 200 mm lengths. Short ones suit narrow straps on rigid boards; the longer ones spread the load on soft cartons.

The floating head keeps the tension equal on all sides, so the strap does not pull the stack sideways. Start low on cartons and raise the tension until the load no longer moves on the pallet; rigid boards and blocks take tension towards the top of the 50–5,000 N range.

One direction or cross strapping?

Brauchst Du Straps in one direction Kreuzumreifung
Long boards or panels normalerweise genug selten benötigt
Loose cartons or mixed items may slide sideways holds both directions
Linienlayout one strapping frame turn the pallet and strap again, or a turntable strapper

For cross strapping, a turning conveyor section in the strapping cell turns the pallet 90° after the first straps, and the frame then straps the other direction. A 2 × 2 grid takes four strap cycles plus the turn. A turntable pallet strapping machine is the other way to reach both directions.

Pallet and lance clearance

The strap goes under the load, so the lance must pass through the pallet or between the conveyor rollers below it. Plastic pallets with closed decks, block pallets and stringer pallets each leave a different path, and the strap position must line up with an opening. Send a drawing of your pallet: the lance path, fork openings and strap positions are checked against it and confirmed at quote.

Strap used per shift

The strap length per loop is about 2 × (load height + pallet height + load width) + seal overlap, where the friction weld overlap is the 20 mm seal length. Take a 1,000 mm wide load 1,200 mm high on a 150 mm pallet (example):

Einblick in das Berechnung Lösung
Schleifenlänge 2 × (1.20 + 0.15 + 1.00) + 0.02 ≈ 4.72 m²
Per pallet, 3 straps 3 × 4.7 ≈ 14 m²
Per shift, 150 pallets (example) 150 × 14 ≈ 2.1 km
Strap time per pallet 3 × 15 s 45 s

Order strap reels on this basis; the reel length depends on the strap and is confirmed with your strap supplier.

Auswahl-Checkliste

  1. Ladungsgröße, Höhe und Gewicht.
  2. Product: boards, panels, cartons or mixed.
  3. Strap count, positions and width.
  4. Edge protectors: yes or no, and length.
  5. One direction or cross strapping.
  6. Conveyor height and pallets per hour.

Sicherheit

We design to EN ISO 12100:2010 for risk assessment, EN 415-10 for general packaging machine safety, EN 415-8 for strapping machines and EN 60204-1 for the electrical equipment. The strap lance, the sealing head and the conveyor are the hazards. The side access doors are interlocked, and light curtains or fencing at the conveyor openings and an emergency stop at the panel are agreed per project, together with the CE documents.

Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Technik

Q: How is the strap joined? A: By friction weld, with a 20 mm seal; no metal seals are used.

Q: How many straps per pallet? A: As many as the plan needs; each adds about 15 s.

Q: What conveyor height does it fit? A: 300 to 600 mm, adjustable.

Q: Can it protect the corners? A: Yes, with the optional 50, 120 or 200 mm edge protectors.

Q: Which strap widths? A: 12–16 mm or 19 mm.
