 HORIZONTAL STRETCH WRAPPER

when using a horizontal stretch wrapper to pack glass products:

Ensure glass stability. Glass products like sheets, panes or bottles have to be packed in a way that prevents shifting and breakage. Padding such as cardboard sheets, foam pads or bubble wrap should be used between glass pieces. This provides cushioning and stability during wrapping and transit.

Maintain orientation. The orientation of glass pieces has to be consistent for proper wrapping. For glass sheets or panes, ensure they are laid out in the same direction. For bottles, keep the tops aligned. Any change in orientation can result in imbalance and damage.

Apply strapping/banding. In addition to padding, strapping material like steel straps, plastic straps or banding should be wrapped around the package to keep all pieces bundled together. Straps provide compressive force required to secure fragile glass items. Multiple straps at different heights provide the most security.

Include spacers. Cardboard or wood spacers help prevent glass pieces from shifting and impacting each other. Place spacers along and between pieces, especially at corners and edges. Spacers maintain stability under compression from the stretch wrapper.

Apply stretch wrapper carefully. Stretch wrapper film needs to be wrapped tightly around the package using the horizontal stretch wrapper to bond all contents together. Apply stretch wrapper steadily and smoothly to prevent tears or bubbles which can lead to loss of adhesion. Some stretch is required but too much can lead to damage.

Clearly mark packages. Clearly marking glass packages with details such as contents, quantity, fragility etc. helps ensure proper handling by people involved in transport and delivery. Fragile markings, arrows indicating which end is up also need to be included to avoid damage due to mishandling.

Provide cushioned support. When transporting glass packages on pallets, cushioning needs to be provided between packages as well as between the bottom package and the pallet. Foam sheets, cardboard separators, air cushions or wood planks can be used for support to prevent movement and impacts.
